Review of the New Cinnamon Flavored Sun Chips

Does it Stand Up to the Other Sun Chip Flavors?

Today I was browsing through the isles of a local party stored I stopped into. I was by the chips rack and took a gander up and down and side to side of it to see if there was anything new that caught my eye. Sure enough, I saw what my afternoon snack was going to be. It was the new Cinnamon flavored Sun Chips. There they were, sitting in their brown toned colored bag, next to all the other Sun Chips and other chips.

I have long been a fan of the Sun Chips brand. They are multigrain, so that makes them slightly healthier than most of the other potatoes chips on the market that are fried. They also have a great light and crispy texture. Being that their new flavor was cinnamon, I just had to try them. I try all new cinnamon flavors of snacks that come out. The cinnamon flavored Sun Chips, made by Frito Lay, definitely are in the running for a good cinnamon snack, but I would not call them the winner. They do give you a decent amount of cinnamon flavoring on them. Their only downfall is the taste of salt that comes out after you first taste the cinnamon on your taste buds. I don't know if it's just the natural taste of the whole grains coming out of that enables the salt taste to be so prominent, but it is kind of a strange mixture. I think if they left the salt out, or put less of it on there, then these would be the winner in the cinnamon snack war. Now don't get me wrong, I love salt, but when you are expecting something to have a sweet cinnamon and sugar taste, you don't want it to be over powered by the taste of salt, at least not in this case. All in all I would give them 3.5 stars out of five.

Frito Lay's Sun Chips, no matter what their flavor, are among the healthier chip snacks on the market. They contain 30% less fat than normal potato chips, 0 trans fats, and no cholesterol. Each serving contains 18 grams of whole grains, which is reflected on the nutritional facts label as Total Carbohydrates. Those 18 grams of whole grains is one third of your daily recommended intake of whole grains, as stated on the back of the bag. Other flavors that are available are Original, Garden Salsa, Harvest Cheddar (my favorite), and French Onion.

I really like the sinnamon sunchips and found them in a grocery store for just one month. I have not found them since. They are by far my favorite chips from the Sun Chip line.

For now, the smaller bags are mainly going to be found in gas stations and convienence strores. Starting October 8th, the full size bags will be in a lot of grocery stores.

Which grocery store did you find yours in? I found mine in a convenient store on campus, but nowhere else yet.

I liked the saltiness, though. It tasted a bit like butter and reminded me of cinnamon toast.
