Review - CJ's Coffee House in Zion, Illinois

Loki Morgan
Right around southern Wisconsin and northern Illinois is the small city of Zion. If you are passing through I highly recommend stopping at CJ's Coffee House for a doughnut or two. CJ's Coffee House offers coffee, tea, and ice cream but by far the best items on the menu are the fresh doughnuts.

Location - Zion, Illinois

CJ's Coffee House is located at 2352 Sheridan Road in Zion, IL 60099. The phone number is (847) 731-2208.

Hours of Operation

CJ's Coffee House is open Monday through Saturday from 4:30 am to 6:00 pm. On Sunday CJ's Coffee House is open from 4:30 am to 4:00 pm.

Look and Feel

CJ's Coffee House is small but does have a few tables to enjoy your snack. Every time I have stopped in, even in the very early morning, I have been greeted with a smile. There is always a sign in the windows supporting the whichever local High School sport team is in season. CJ's Coffee House always has customers who seem to know each other. The majority of the time I enjoy small talk with other customers while waiting in line. Although it is small, CJ's Coffee House is a warm and friendly place.

Coffee and Tea

CJ's Coffee House offers specialty coffees and teas. I have never cared for the coffee but I do not care for most coffee. If you order an espresso or cappuccino you should be prepared to wait for it. My husband who is a coffee drinker prefers the regular coffee to the specialty brews.

Doughnuts

CJ's Coffee House has a huge assortment of fresh, handmade doughnuts. In addition to the standard glazed, long john, and Bavarian cream CJ's Coffee House offers unique and delicious varieties. My son loves the old fashion strawberry doughnut which is moist and just a bit sweet. My favorite is the knot which is a delicious mixture of fried dough, cinnamon and sugar. Another interesting flavor is the sour cream doughnut which I like despite my distaste for sour cream. CJ's Coffee House always has themed doughnuts according to the nearest holiday.

Price

The price of a dozen of CJ's Coffee House doughnuts is comparable to Dunkin Donuts which has a chain located about a block away. I urge you to try CJ's Coffee House instead and support a locally owned business in Zion, Illinois.

Final Score Card

Although I would not go to CJ's Coffee House for the coffee, I would go out of my way for their doughnuts. If you are near Gurnee, Illinois or Kenosha, Wisconsin I suggest you take a detour and try out this local business in Zion, Illinois.
