Review of the Clear Blue Easy Fertility Monitor

Rachel Soden
Before being diagnosed with PCOS, we tried using the Clear Blue Fertility Monitor. We were lucky that a pregnant friend loaned us hers so we didn't spend the $140 for the monitor and $40 for the sticks.

Upon receiving the monitor, I had to do an internet search to figure out how to reset the machine. After all, one of the perks of the Clear Blue Monitor is that it saves your information from cycle to cycle. So I didn't want my cycle being compared to my friend's.

I was able to locate instructions to reset the monitor. I then waited for my next period. Once that came, I set the date of my period and the time that I wanted to test everyday. From here every morning I had to turn the machine on at the exact same time. It would tell me if and when I needed to pee on a stick and insert it. It has an indicator on the screen that says where in your fertility you are at. The goal is for it to calculate your peak fertility days so you can get pregnant.

I only used the monitor for one cycle. I never got a peak reading. I discovered later that it was because I wasn't ovulating due to PCOS. So to be fair to Clear Blue, the monitor didn't work because I was broken.

In my opinion the monitor is great for those couples with no fertility issues who want to get pregnant quickly. In the case of those dealing with infertility, I don't know how big a help it will be. They say on the box that it is not for people with PCOS or on Clomid. Well, those are two of the big infertility causes and treatments. It's a good little machine. It does what it says it will do. However, due to the high cost, I would recommend trying other things before this whether it be BBT monitoring, family planning methods, or ovulation sticks. If after all these avenues are exhausted, I would see a doctor. If they think you should try the monitor then consider it. Try to find it at a discount or on eBay.

Bottom line, the machine works for certain people. If you aren't having luck with family planning methods or ovulation predictors and are considering this, you should probably consult a physician as there might be an underlying issue. I would spend the money to see the doctor over the possibility of wasting money on this machine when it might not work for you.
