Review of Coast LED Tac Torch 4-Color Recon Flashlight

Jill O'Malley
This amazing flashlight is not only small and lightweight, but it is also the brightest flashlight I have ever used. Whereas many LED lights are known for their brightness the majority of other ones also only use one bulb. The Tac Torch uses 6. That's right, six tiny LED lights are used creating a high intensity brightness, even in a brightly lit location. That combined with the three other light options (red, blue and green), each for specific needs, leaves this flashlight being separated from the rest in its class.

I first looked at the Tac Torch when I was looking through various other lights trying to find a couple to be used during my paranormal investigations. We have several criteria that needs to be met in relation to flashlights during our investigations, those being that we didn't want anything bulky, heavy, hard to use, hard to access quickly, and we need the beam to be bright. I was also looking for another flashlight that could be used when we are recording in night vision and still be able to see fairly well. Along with those two lights I was also looking for either a blue or black light to help identify body fluids. Imagine my joy when I found one convenient light that could perform all of my needs in one small flashlight! This flashlight has four clickable buttons placed around the top. They are color coated and the main white light button (which is black) is textured, making it easy to find in the dark. There is also a red button for the red light, which preserves night vision and according to the packaging can be used to signal an emergency. There is a blue button for the blue LED beam, which helps in blood and bodily fluid recognition. And there is also a green button for the green light that also helps preserve night vision, leaving it up to the user if they prefer the green or red, as everyone is different. The standard white light uses three of the 6 LED lights and each of the other colors uses one, however, if you really need a lot of light you can turn on all of the colors at once and utilize all six LED lights.

The LED Tac Torch (made by Coast) was originally developed with help from the U.S. military and because of this, the little light means business. The flashlight is made out of Ballistic, lightweight aluminum leaving it weighing less than two pounds. The light itself is only 3 and ¾ inches long and it comes with a carrying pouch that includes a belt clip and lanyard. Three AAA batteries are also included and even with frequent use they last quite a long time. The retail price for this flashlight is $60, but I found mine on sale for less than $40, so be sure to look around before buying. I figure that less than $40 for one flashlight that I would need at least three other flashlights to do the same jobs with is quite a deal, especially considering that all four color settings work wonderfully for what they were designed for. I would easily give this flashlight a 5 out of 5 and would highly recommend the purchase to anyone else, even if it isn't to be used for paranormal investigating.
