Review: Covergirls' TRUblend Mineral Foundation

Today we are going to take a look at Covergirls' TRUblend Minerals. Throughout this review we are going to talk about the over-all quality, coverage, application and coloring. Let's get started.

Coverage:

First we are going to start off with coverage. If you are looking for a loose-powder-mineral foundation that will simply even out a little discoloration and unevenness in your skin tone, this foundation may very well be for you. However, if you are looking for a foundation that will cover extremely well and diminish blemishes, scars, as well as even out skin tone, this product is not for you.

TRUblend give light to light-medium coverage. I put this foundation to the test on evening out skin tone after nasty allergies kicked in and caused portions of my facial skin to redden. No doubt about it, this foundation evened everything out and all was cool. Then I decided I wanted to put it to the blemish test. I developed freckles on the tops of my shoulders after getting sun burnt a couple years back, and this foundation did absolutely nothing in the terms of covering them when applied.

Application:

This foundation has a semi-sheer finish and doesn't leave a thick powder appearance on the skin when applied properly. I was not happy when it came to the feel of wearing this foundation. I was fooled with this makeup at first because it felt very light when applied to the skin, but things changed soon after application. Even though the makeup did not look heavy or very noticeable on the skin, it felt like I was wearing a big-thick mask. Never before has my face felt like it couldn't breathe, and the feeling was bothering and uncomfortable.

Coloring:

I bought TRUblend number 705. It says that it is meant for "Translucent Fair" skin, but the color didn't look light enough to me; I have a medium skin tone and thought the foundation looked my color through the packaging. Needless to say, looks can be deceiving! The foundation color was a lot lighter than it looked in the packaging after I applied it. It was too light for me. So I will warn you, don't make the same mistake that I made, and follow the packaging when it comes to choosing your color. It may look darker than what it says, but it's not.

One thing I did not like about this foundation - it has shimmer. It does not say "shimmer" on the packaging so I was not expecting it. The shimmer is not overwhelming, but I was a bit disappointed because I like a nice matte-natural finish rather than a sparkle when it comes to something that is covering my face. It looks a bit odd if you apply it in a specific area and leave out the rest of your face because that one area has sparkles.

Over-all Quality:

This is not a bad product for the price (I got mine for $6.79). It comes in a generous size of 18g and the container is big and packed full of product. If you are looking for a light coverage to cover some redness, I would give this foundation a try. If you are looking for medium-full to full coverage, I advise you to steer clear of this foundation; you will be disappointed.

Tips:

When applying this foundation, you can avoid the "caked on" look by simply moisturizing before application and applying primer of your choice. You can also avoid the "too heavy" feeling by applying a single light coat and then dabbing your skin where applied with a Kleenex to remove access foundation.
