The knives come in and I open the package to look them over. After reading the reviews many said theirs had arrived with cracked handles, so this was the first thing I looked for. All the handles were fine, no cracks or broken ones. The Cuisinart set comes with a nice variety of knives one serrated bread knife, two smaller serrated knives, two chef's knives, two santoku knives, eight non-serrated steak knives, a slicer, and a paring knife. I was very pleased with the non-serrated steak knives, since in all of my previous knife sets most of the serrated ones went unused.
That is were the happiness of the new Cuisinart Knife set ended. I placed the knives in the sink for their first washing. Left them there and went off to do other things. When I returned to them, some had rust spots already, within just about 2 hours or so. This was astonishing to me. I had never seen such a thing from my cheaper knife sets. I figured I would give them a shot anyways because I hate to send things back if I can avoid it. Over the next few days, I washed the knives immediately after using them and them promptly dried them. The rust had not reappeared.
The Cuisinart knives are very sharp and seem to have very good construction. However, I would not recommend for anyone to purchase these knives nor would I buy them again. For the time being I will keep using them, until I find another set that I like. I probably should have just returned them but I was in dire need of new knifes. Washing and drying them immediately was a better option to me than having to saw through the food with my old knife set. What I thought was a great deal has proved me wrong and now I understand why they were 65% off their normal price.

Post a Commenti too have bought cuisinart knives thinking they were a step up from cheap knives that rust and spot. and just like the author, the "stainless" steel have stained.
i also have a henckels knife set that does not stain after placed in the dishwasher. i realize that at least, with the henckles brand, you can get different "grades", the set i own are made in spain, which i believe are the medium grade, the lower grade being made in china i think.
what gives, cuisinart? i hate looking at these weird rust stains, to me they're a reminder of money not well spent!
I have the exact same problem, I bought a Santoku knife from Kitchen Stuff. On the first soak and wash the knife got rust spots and the blade had chipped from the rust. I took it back in 4 days from purchase, they didn't believe me I bought it less then a week ago, after 15 minutes of arguing they exchanged the knife for a new one. That was 3 weeks ago, I woke up this morning and my new one got rust spots on it... :-(.
Clearly, it's a choice of material they use for these knives. Won't buy again even though its a great knife.
Cheap knives are less likey to rust! Unfortunately the composition of a knife is such that you can have a sharp knife that needs to be taken care of or a dull knife that doesn't rust. A scotchbrite pad will easily take away the rust
I found myself here because I was looking for reviews of a Cuisinart Chefs knife. I got one for Christmas and now a little more than a month later IT'S CRACKED! Not the handle but the blade. 1/2" from the handle the blade has an inch long crack right through the steel. NO dishwasher, No excessive heat, No excessive cold. Hand washed always and dried quickly. No rush either. Cheap piece of crap!
Are you insane to put your Wusthof knives in the dishwasher?!
Your knives are only as good as you treat them! I have a very expensive, excellent quality Henckels chefs knife that will spot if it isn't cleaned and dried properly (and it would never occur to me to put it in the dishwasher-fastest way to dull it and deteriorate the steel and handle!)
I have just received a set of Cuisinart X-series knives, and they appear to be of very decent quality...well constructed and sharp. I am sure they will hold up just as nicely as my Henckels, as I intend to take care of them the same way.
I clean and dry my knives imediately after use and they still get rust spots. Very disappointed.
Are you insane I have a nice set of Wusthof knives and they do not rust when put in the dishwasher. These cheapo Cuisinart ones do rust all the time and quite badly. They are shart but so are the Ginsu knives.
Perhaps you people should familiarize yourselves with the laws of metallurgy and physics before criticizing?? Knives with high carbon content will ALWAYS rust if exposed to water for prolonged periods. This is the mark of a good knife, NOT one that is cheaply made!!! Try doing this with Henckels or Wusthof knives and see what happens (they will rust as well). These knives work exactly as advertised. As with any good knife, you should clean and dry immediately when done using it. Do NOT leave it sitting in water or it will rust. The instructions state this explicitly...
Sounds like a good knife set.
Great review! I too have a hard time finding good quality knives. Seems like even the expensive ones are cheaply made.
