The cyber school also supplies everything needed. They give you the computer, the printer, books, art supplies, headset, ink and any other things that are necessary for classes. They even pay for your internet connection and reimburse for a physical education class. They provide any necessary support as well. If your child is having trouble with a subject, they have tutors available to help.
There are special guidance counselors that can help with any problems you have and they do check in quite a bit as well. If you have computer difficulties, their is tech support to help out and they are fast. They can download programs and fix your computer problems from their office.
Socialization is not an issue as far as I am concerned. I feel that there is more time to socialize in a cyber charter school than in a regular school. The students can chat amongst themselves before and after class and in some classes, the teacher splits the class into groups and each group works together doing the assignment, just like in regular school. There is more time for extra curricular activities as well and thus more socializing. The cyber school also has outside meeting activities like picnics and field trips. This way, the kids can meet and make friends and the parents can talk to other adults.
My daughter is in a cyber charter school this year for the first time. She just entered into the sixth grade. She had been in private and public schools up until now. I felt that this was a better option than our school district's junior high which has constant problems. We were both hesitant about doing this but after the first day, we both realized that it was a step in the right direction. My daughter loves the way the classes are held and she really enjoys the new way she is learning. I enjoy the freedom that we never had and the extra family time that we now have. When she was in a regular school, she was out of the house from 8am to about 4pm every day. Then once she got home, she had to start her homework. She generally didn't finish her homework until around 7pm each night. That took away valuable family time.
I am enjoying our new school and so is my daughter. I recommend it to anyone that has the option and has the desire. Traditional homeschooling is not for me and my family. I have four children, three of which are toddlers and I work from home as well as take college courses. I do not have the time to dedicate to teaching and being the only teacher that my daughter would have. This type of program allows us to utilize a homeschooling approach and yet to still have the freedom to do other things as well. I think that many families would benefit from this newer type of schooling.
