Review of Dangerous Conflicts 3D for Xbox 360

What Happened to Quality Control of Xbox Live Games?

David Leavitt
Xbox 360 owners may have noticed the new title Dangerous Conflicts 3D in the Indie Games section of the Xbox live marketplace for 80 Microsoft Points ($1). Here's an in depth look at Copasetic Games latest offering Dangerous Conflicts 3D for Xbox 360.

Initially this gamer was excited to download Dangerous Conflicts 3D. The description from the Xbox Live Marketplace promised that players would be able to "relive the glory days of the first person shooter with Dangerous Conflicts 3D! Experience exhilarating, old school shooter gameplay not seen since the dawn of the genre in the early to mid 90's." Fond memories of Doom and Wolfenstein 3D entered my mind. However that memory was the closest to "exhilarating" I would get.

Controls
The controls in Dangerous Conflicts 3D for Xbox 360 are atrocious. One should note that Dangerous Conflicts 3D is trying to imitate retro shooters that did not have modern movements such as jumping and strafing. Even with that said, to say that the movement controls (left analogue stick) are annoying would be an understatement.

There is no way to accurately aim in Dangerous Conflicts 3D. Shooting enemies proves to be more trouble than is worth. One can just run by an enemy with little to no consequences as they shoot slowly and are either stationary or move back and forth by three feet.

Graphics and Sound
Both Wolfenstein 3D and Doom look like next generation games compared to Dangerous Conflicts 3D. Even the old "Maze" screensaver for Windows 98 had better graphics for walls than those contained in Dangerous Conflicts 3D for Xbox 360.

Xbox 360's Dangerous Conflicts 3D should have a warning before playing it. After playing Dangerous Conflicts 3D for five minutes I had a splitting headache. My roommate played Dangerous Conflicts for fifteen minutes, at which time she described herself feeling "car sick."

If the terrible graphics don't stop you from continuing to play Dangerous Conflicts 3D for Xbox 360, then the bad sound track surely will. The annoying music lasts under ten seconds and repeats itself ad nauseum. Shooting and dying are the two only other sounds, both of which are as equally annoying if not more so. Luckily most televisions are equipped with mute controls, which may lessen the pain (not by much though).

Summary
Between atrocious controls, horrendous graphics, and an incredibly short campaign, Dangerous Conflicts 3D for Xbox 360 should be avoided at all costs. You would have more fun playing Barbie Wild Horse Rescue than Dangerous Conflicts 3D. With other shooters such as Doom, Wolfenstein 3D, and Perfect Dark all currently available from the Xbox Live Arcade for just a few dollars more, there is simply no justification to buy Dangerous Conflicts 3D for Xbox 360.

The twenty minutes I spent beating Dangerous Conflicts 3D for Xbox 360 twice in a row were the most agonizing moments that this gamer has gone through since listening to a speech given by George W. Bush. If you should find yourself with a spare 80 Microsoft Points and feel the need to spend it on an Indie Game, buy Motor Heat instead. Hopefully the next Copasetic Games title will be far better.
