"*Our God is an awesome God, he reigns from Heaven above, in wisdom power and love, our God is an awesome God!* I'm so thankful and proud that I can say "I have Jesus Christ!" I mean, Wow! I really could not live without him. I'm so thankful to God for everything he has done for me. I'm thankful that God loves me so much, he has been able to convict my heart, and get me back into a quiet time. It really has been so long since I've sat down, and taken time out of my day to be alone, one on one, with the Lord. Lately, I've truly felt God talking to me, telling me that I need to spend time with him, and life for him! I've been looking for a place to start, but I couldn't find it. It took me until today, weeks, months even, since I first felt the tug from God... but now I've found my place. Today in Wal-Mart, I found a devotional book, called "Girl's of Grace." I immediately picked It up and bought it. I couldn't wait to get home and start it, because I knew that it was what I've been looking for. It's awesome. It is by Point of Grace, the music group. It's mainly about Faith, Family, Friends, and Boys, which are the four main struggles in my life right now. I have been having such a hard time in all of these areas of my life, and I've been praying about it, and I know this is my answer. God gave me this book for a reason, and through it, and all of my future Bible Study Books, God is going to speak to me. And now, more than ever, I am so ready to listen! God moves in so many awesome ways. I am truly so thankful and glad that he is leading me, now, in my life.. It is so great to know that he is with me daily, every step of the way. Thanks so much God, You're awesome!"
I wrote the above journal entry at the young age of 14, and I have to say that was a distinct moment in my life. I do remember walking through Wal-Mart and picking up that devotional book. I held it up and showed my Mom, and I was so proud, because for some reason I just knew that this book was going to bring me closer to God, and that is just what it did. Now, I am 19, but the spiritual guidance that I learned from those lessons has never left. To this day, that devotional book by Point of Grace sits in the top drawer of the nightstand beside my bed. Though I completed all of the devotions a long time ago, I still like to read over them periodically, to strengthen my spiritual walk with God as well as to reflect upon the progress of my journey with him. I have completed many different devotional books in my time, but I have to say that Girls of Grace stood out as one of the best, and definitely the most influential. It came at a distinct point in my life, when I was beginning to face the most difficult challenges of adolescence. When times were tough I was able to lean on this book, and I let the words of Point of Grace lead me closer to God.
The day after purchasing this book, I wrote the following journal entry:
September 29, 2003
"Today in my quiet time, I was reading my new book Girls of Grace. It was awesome, and I felt God speaking to me through it. It was talking about disciplining yourself to spend time daily with God. It gave me some great ideas on what I can do for my quiet time. I wrote them above: (daily devotional books, book of Proverbs, book of Psalms, whole Bible). A verse I read today that I love, and don't recall ever hearing before is: -Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in you. Show me the way I should go for to you I life up my soul (Psalm 143:8). This is now my prayer. Thank you God, for everything!"
This was only after the first day of reading the book Girls of Grace. Imagine what months of lessons did. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in exploring God's word, but especially to teenage girls of all ages. It focuses on several issues which are occurring in every young girl's life. From this book, I gained insight to my personal values, friendship, relationships, and spiritual walk. I loved every minute of reading and completing it, and feel like it did change my life.
