Review: Dole Spring Salad Mix

I don't normally care much about which brand of packaged salad I get. If there is organic and it is not to much I go for that brand. If there is only non-organic I get whatever seems best. Though, one day I bought Dole Spring Salad Mix and I noticed on the package it said 70% of the packaging is from recycled materials and 100% is made with solar power.

I was really happy to see that, even though it's not organic, it was made in a highly environmentally friendly way. That, to me, is the next best thing to organic. When organic is not an option. If only I could convince Dole to make it organic too it might be perfect.

The Dole Salad Spring Mix is a mix of baby lettuces, various baby greens, baby spinach, endive and radicchio It is a really nice balance. It doesn't ever have too much of one and not enough of the other. Though, it does have more of some types than the other, it works out to be a good balance. I have purchased the mix a few times and every time it is nice and fresh with the salad pieces being the perfect bite size and never any of the annoying too large pieces that you need to cut or tear up.

If you are a crispy iceberg lettuce fan, there is no iceberg lettuce in this mix. There is only the healthier greener types. But there are some crisp type pieces, though probably not enough to satisfy a true iceberg lettuce fan. To help iceberg lettuce fans transition I would add in some iceberg.

The plastic container keeps it nice and fresh for about a week after opening it. Though, after that time I find myself picking and choosing amount some pieces that are slowly melting away. It is fresh so it is bound to happen and should be eaten as soon as you open it, if not as soon as you purchase it.

I purchased the larger size, in a plastic container, which for some unknown reason is called a clamshell. It is it nice because after the salad is gone I poke some holes, add dirt and plant some small herb plants.

The Dole Spring Salad Mix is always fresh when I buy it and has a great mix of greens and I alway try to choose it when I am purchasing non-organic salad mix.
