Review: Domino's Buffalo Chicken Sandwich

It's Delivery

Drew Taylor
Domino's celebrates its 50th anniversary in December and the company is on a winning streak with me. The new and improved pizza recipe is a hit and the Lava Crunch Cake is also surprisingly tasty. So, I decided to try one of the baked subs. After reading through the menu I choose the buffalo chicken sandwich.

What's on Domino's Buffalo Chicken Sandwich?
The buffalo chicken sub contains Provolone cheese, Cheddar cheese, sliced onions and seasoned white meat chicken breast topped with a dousing of hot sauce -the same one that's on the hot wings- and creamy blue cheese. Domino's describes the bread as "artisan Italian bread".

First Impressions
The baked sandwich smells delicious and measures approximately eight inches long. I ordered mine with light hot sauce and see that it has a scant application of the red sauce. Initially, the sandwich seems greasy and messy with melted cheese along the sides.

Flavor and Appearance
Looking inside the sandwich, there is not much chicken, but it is full of gooey layers of cheese.
The onions are lightly cooked - not too soggy, not too crisp - like the onions on Domino's pizzas. The baked sandwich is buttery and delicious, not greasy. The bread is similar to Ciabatta. It is toasty and a bit crisp on the outside and soft and chewy on the inside. The chicken tastes plain, but the other toppings give it a boost. The baked buffalo chicken sandwich is not very spicy and the standard application of hot sauce probably would not have been as spicy as I expected. The sandwich is very filling; half is a generous serving for me.

Nutrition Content
According to Domino's online Cal-O-Meter, the oven-baked buffalo chicken sandwich serves one and has 830 calories with 370 calories from fat. Visit the website for complete and current dietary info. The interactive calorie tool also allows users to combine menu selections and easily calculate the total nutritional value.

Room for Improvement
This sandwich was delicious and filling, but it did not look as full as the buffalo chicken sandwich pictured in Domino's ads and on its website. This was particularly disappointing because Domino's is in the midst of an ad campaign eschewing food styling in favor of advertising the food as it is made for real-life customers.

Final Word: Domino's Oven-Baked Buffalo Chicken Sandwich
This oven-baked sandwich was a nice change of pace from the usual delivery options and I will purchase it again in the future.

We don't have a Domino's nearby, but it sounds good.
