Review of Doubletree Metropolitan Hotel New York

Location and price are two major considerations when selecting a hotel in New York City. I recently found myself in need of a quality hotel that was near a Church and provided ready access to different areas of the city. I came across the Doubletree Metropolitan Hotel (52nd and Lexington) and consider this discovery to be fate smiling upon me.

Located just a few short blocks from St. Patrick's Cathedral, the necessity of a nearby church was taken care of. Of course, this also put me within walking distance of Rockefeller Center, Times Square and countless restaurants. The hotel room itself is modest, but very well decorated. With a flat panel television with internet access (modest extra charge) in every room, and every bed equipped with Doubletree's own Sweet DreamsTM mattresses, comfort and convenience are assured. The beds are so comfortable that upon returning home, my memory foam felt like I was sleeping on rocks.

The price was excellent at just over $200 (off season) when you consider the amenities and location. A trip during high tourist season can run you anywhere from $350 to $500 or more, however. Don't go to Doubletree (or any New York hotel, for that matter) expecting cheap room service. Though the menu offers some great food, its perfect for the periodic vacation splurge or charge to the expense account.

The concierge service is friendly and helpful, perfect for someone who isn't familiar with the city.

All around my stay at the Doubletree Metro was an enjoyable experience. I didn't have the opportunity to sample the food at the hotel's restaurant, mainly because there are countless restaurants all around the hotel including Thai and Sushi.

If you want New York City. Specifically, if you want Uptown Manhattan, the Doubletree Metro is the way to go.
