How well dos a Duck Window Kit Work?
We installed a Duck Window Kit on our windows last fall right before the cold set in. During the winter our heat pump would run on average about 2 hours per day. After installing the Duck Window Kit our thermostat started registering that our heat pumps were running 15 minutes less. That is a savings of approximately 12% on the running time of our heat pump.
After the winter was over I decided I would leave Duck window film on the windows to see what would happen in the summer. During the summer months our air conditioners would run an average of about 10 hours per day. I was astonished to find that leaving the shrink wrap film provided in the Duck Window Kit continued to save us money by cutting the run time down on our air conditioners to 8.5 hours, or about 15% less run time.
How easy is a Duck Window Kit to Install?
A Duck Window Kit comes in various sizes for windows. Our particular kit contained 10 pieces of window film that covered windows up to 62x420 inches. The only tools needed were a pair of scissors that allowed us to cut the window film down to the needed size. Once we stretched the window film over the door we turned on a hair dryer and allowed the film to shrink onto the wooden frame surrounding the windows. All told it took us about 10 minutes per window. The directions report that the film will stick to metal frames as well as wood frames.
Where can I buy a Duck Window Kit and for how much?
We purchased our Duck Window Kit at amazon.com for $20 bucks. I have found the same kit in our local home improvement stores for about $25 dollars depending on the window size you need.
I would highly recommend this product. It requires very little do it yourself knowledge, and demands hardly any of your time to install. The savings are well worth the little bit of money this product is going to cost you. We were very pleased with how well the Duck Window Kit helped us to Seal Drafty Windows found throughout our house, and would highly recommend you purchasing this product sooner rather than later.

Post a CommentVery good article. Picked up a couple of the Duck Window Kits for 4.50 at Walmart. Was looking to see if it will help after my last summer ... gets to be about 115F.
Good info. My sister-in-law uses something like that on her windows and says it helps a lot.
Sounds great.. :o)
good information!
When reading the title of this article I thought it would be a kit for placing decorative pieces onto the glass, not an article about insulation. Good article on how to keep out those winter draughts!
We used something like this on our basement windows one winter. It really cut down on the cold, drafty air coming inside.
Good information with winter coming.
Fantastic information! I'm going to look into this, at least for some windows. I like open windows whenever weather permits.
Thanks for the info, I will look into this.
I've always wondered if this worked. Guess we'll give it a go! Cheers.
