As I mentioned in another review, I decided to run to the store this past weekend to pick up something for breakfast for my wife and me and, mostly because of the cost, I ended up with frozen pancakes.
I am a big fan of blueberry pancakes and, since nobody else in my family seems to like them (for unexplained reasons); I rarely get to have them. So, since I was buying frozen pancakes anyway, I decided to spend a little extra and pick up a box of Eggo Blueberry Pancakes for me.
This was the first time I have had a chance to try this brand (at least as far as I can remember). I have had other frozen blueberry pancakes in the past. But, because we normally are working with a tight budget, I usually stick with the cheaper store brands. In fact, the only reason I purchased this brand this particular time was there was no store brand equivalent.
I have had plenty of other Eggo products in the past, including their buttermilk pancakes and, for the most part, I haven't found any products I haven't enjoyed. However, when it came to the blueberry pancakes, I honestly wasn't a huge fan of them.
When I purchased these, I knew they wouldn't be as good as fresh pancakes because frozen pancakes never are and, I was pretty much right with that assumption. What was disappointing about these is they really weren't all that good when compared to other frozen brands.
For one, they had a strange taste to them. It's a bit hard to describe exactly what I mean by that. But, they just didn't seem to have the same enjoyable flavor as other brands, including some store brands I've tried. Not only did these not taste all that great when eating them, they left a weird after taste in my mouth that managed to last for some time after eating them.
Another thing I realized with this brand is, even though the pancakes seem to have a lot of blueberries in them, for some reason, they weren't very noticeable when eating them. In fact, if I had been blindfolded, I don't think I could even tell they had blueberries in them.
Considering this is a w ell-known, more expensive brand, I honestly was expecting more from these pancakes. Unfortunately, they did not live up to my expectations and I don't think I'll be buying them again.
