Review: ELF's All Over Cover Stick

TommiH
Hey everyone! Today we are going to take a look at ELF's Cover Stick. During this time we are going to talk about coverage, application, color, and formula texture. Here we go!

Color:

I'm not exactly wowed by the color selection available. There are only three cover stick colors available for purchase: fair, light, and medium. This isn't much help for those of you who are blessed with that beautiful dark skin, now does it? But let's make do with what we have.

The color pigments are pretty much the same as shown in the pictures on ELF's site. I purchased a fair concealer, cover stick, for areas that I was planning on highlighting and the color was rich and light. I was impressed with the products actual color, just not the colors available. There could be more for a larger variety of customers.

Coverage:

The cover stick provides full coverage. I will admit that I was highly impressed with the coverage. I train with daggers and cut myself in the arm. Long story short, I now have a little knife scar on my forearm (of course it was the first thing I tried to cover with the color stick, and it worked!).

For those of you who are searching for a full coverage concealer and haven't found one, you may want to try this just to test out the coverage. Of course everyone has something they want to cover and all of us our different, no judging there, so this concealer may be able to cover your "blemish". It covered my knife wound.

Application:

Now here comes the depressing part, application. I was very disappointed with this area. The actual concealer covers for hours, but it hunts out dry skin patches, wrinkles, fine lines, and any other crease it can find. Then it proceeds to settle into a cakey corner mess. Not nice at all!

Being a makeup artist and trying new eye shadow looks constantly, I was going to use this concealer as a base for my shadow. I figured it would provide my lids with a healthy appearance and give me a oil absorbing base. Wrong! The concealer creased and so did the shadow.

I did eventually use this as a base, but with a clear eye primer underneath. It provided me with a healthy skin tone underneath the eye shadow and worked out for me in the end.

Formula Texture:

This cover stick is in a cream form and is very creamy! A little goes a long way so don't overdo it because it will look cakey and completely fake.

Tips on applying: get a small concealer brush with tightly knit-soft bristles. Dab the top of the cover stick with the concealer brush. Lightly dab problem areas with the concealer patted brush. If you have larger problem areas that you would like to cover (such as freckle patches) make a crisscrossed pattern on top of the freckles. Blend out the concealer a little so it's not so bold. Dab your foundation on with a foundation brush. If you are using a powder, reach for a kabuki brush. If you are using a liquid foundation, go for a large-tight knit bristle foundation brush. Blend everything together evenly.

To wrap everything up, if you want to try out a full coverage concealer for a small amount of money ($1), try out the cover stick from ELF. It's not the best concealer out there, but you might be able to make it work for you just as I did for myself.
