Review of Excalibur Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, NV

On a recent trip to Las Vegas, I was looking for a Hotel that was clean and cheap. Like everyone else right now I don't have a lot of money to spare. I booked a room at the Excalibur hotel on the Internet because it was cheap. I got a deal on expedia for $61 dollars a night and then I just hoped it was a decent place to stay because you never know in Vegas. I have paid $80 for a super nice room before and $100 for a dump, like everything else in Vegas, you just gotta be lucky. This time I think I did alright.

Outside:

Of course the Excalibur is recognizable to anyone who has been to Vegas. Its the huge castle on the strip. It has towers in it which is actually where the room are, so you can get a nice view, they'll let you request a room with a view even, but I didn't bother--I don't spend any more time than I have to in the room when I am in Vegas. The front entryway looks like an entrance to a castle with the gate and all and the lobby is fantastic. Not Venetian fantastic but really nice.

Room:

The rooms were decorated in a castle theme (which I liked--I don't like going to a themed casino where the rooms are decorated like a normal hotel room). It had brown carpet that didn't have any unusual stains on it and a nice beige wallpaper that still looked nice. The furniture was sturdy but scuffed and well worn. The nightstand sported your typical alarm clock radio. The bedspread and the curtains were some renaissance looking design that was rust, blue and purple which gave some color to the room. There was a tapestry hanging on the wall along with a couple of renaissance pictures. The only odd thing out about the decor was a mirror that looked like it belonged in the Aladdin instead of the Excalibur. The bed head boards sported a flues-de-leis on them. My room had two queen beds and both of the beds slept well.

The bathroom was a little on the dingy side, there was no bathtub, only a shower. The shower was clean and didn't leak outside the shower door. The shower head was high enough I didn't have to duck to wash my hair and the water pressure was good. The sink area was large and clean. The floor looked a little dirty and whether it was that way when I came in or if I tracked it in--I can't be absolutely sure. The wallpaper in the bathroom looked like it had been molding for some time.

Amenities:

In the room, you could get internet access for $13 a day, there was of course a TV with a few cable channels, you could also purchase movies, but oddly enough there was no coffee pot in the room. There was some complementary shampoo and lotion in the bathroom, and a small hairdryer. The room also had an iron. You could get room service, but it was expensive so I didn't try it. And just for an FYI Pizza Hut will deliver to the Excalibur.

Service:

I didn't ask for anything and I didn't have the room cleaned either, but the check in and check out employees were really nice as was the gentleman at the box office for the show.

Casino:

The casino area looks well taken care of, not as shabby as the Imperial Palace. But I don't gamble, much. The casino looked like it had a number of card games and slot machines. It also had the usual casino bars. Upstairs the Excalibur connects to the Luxor by a bridge which is very convenient as the Luxor has two nice clubs: LAX and Cathouse.

Food:

The Excalibur has 5 restaurants and a food court. I didn't try the restaurants which include a buffet, a steak place, and an Italian restaurant. I did eat at the food court at the McDonalds (whose prices weren't all that different than a regular McDonalds) and I got donuts at 4am at the Krispy Kreme. Both chains has the quality of food you expect from them. There was also a pizza hut express, a Starbucks, a Coldstone, a Quiznos and a Manchu Wok.

Shows:

We did go to the Thunder Down Under show at the Excalibur which was excellent and it was very nice to be staying in the same hotel as the show. It was also nice to be so close to two nice clubs--that made walking back after dancing all night so much easier. I, however, didn't see any of the other shows featured at the Excalibur which include Louie Anderson, Defending the Caveman, and Tournament of kings.

Other:

The casino also has a spa which I didn't use and of course also does weddings like most other casino in Las Vegas.

All in all it was a nice hotel for the price. Its definitely a 3-star hotel, but it is conveniently located on the strip and it was cheap and pretty clean. I would stay here again for a Las Vegas weekend--its not like I do that much sleeping anyways.

Price: $61 per night plus tax and $5 per night resort fee
