Located minutes from Interstate 79 in Bridgeville, Fairview Park's Dog Run Free Zone is the perfect location for your dog to exercise and socialize. The Dog Run Free Zone is designated for dogs to be off-leash and free. It's nice to be able to let your dog off its leash once in a while. Fairview Park includes a 2 baseball fields, a picnic pavilion, tennis court and playground along with the Dog Run Free Zone.
Before deciding to bring your dog to Fairview Park, you must first obtain the annual Dog Run Free Zone registration tag, similar to the county license tag. This rule is effective as of January 2010. For this particular tag, you must have a copy of your dog's county license, as well as its rabies certificate. Once applied for, the registration is good until June 30 of the following year. If you are a resident of South Fayette Township, then the fee for this registration is significantly cheaper than if you are not a resident. For residents under the age of 65, the fee is $20 per year. After the first year, the renewal fee is $10. Residents over the age of 65 only pay a $10 fee initially, followed by a $5 fee for renewal each year after. However, if you do not live in South Fayette Township, the fee is $50 initially, and $25 for yearly renewal. This fee seems expensive for non-residents, but it's worth the cost if you enjoy taking your dog to a safe place where it can be off leash and free to socialize with other dogs. Plus, this fee is good for an entire year. Rest assured that all dogs in the Dog Run Free Zone of Fairview Park must be up to date on rabies and other important vaccinations, as well as free of fleas and ticks. A complete regulations list, as well as the tag application is available at http://www.parks.south-fayette.pa.us/ under the Dog Run Free Zone link.
After all of your registration paperwork is completed, and you receive your dog's tag, you are now free to visit Fairview Park as much as you like. There are specially marked flags in the park that tell you where you are able to let your dog off the leash. Once off the leash, be sure to keep a good eye on your dog at all times, and always be in calling range. On hot days, bring a water bottle to keep your dog hydrated.
Once you walk to the top of the hill, you are able to get a great view of the neighborhood from up high. There are many paths that you are able to follow, and all of these paths are grass covered and very well maintained. Not only is this a great way for your dog to exercise, but it's a great exercise opportunity for you as well!
Overall, I highly recommend Fairview Park's Dog Run Free Zone for all dog owners in the Pittsburgh area. It's a must see, and must visit!
