Recently, one of my networking groups had a get together at the Port Orchard , Washington Family Pancake House. I had heard nothing but raves about this place. It has been a part of the local community for quite some time. So, I was curious to see what all the hoopla was about.

Upon arriving at the site, I noticed the grounds being well landscaped and attractive. The building's exterior was pleasant to look at and well maintained. The parking lot was large and filled during the breakfast hours when we were there. There were no holes in the asphalt, either in the parking lot or on the sidewalks. In fact, this place is usually crowded. It does good business.

The location is across from the Port Orchard Post Office on Bethel. It is easy to find, and the signage makes it easy to see from the street. The signage includes a menu board that is changed with daily specials. It is pleasing to the eyes.

When we entered the eatery, we were greeted promptly and asked how many were in our party. We told them there was a reservation for 10. They were holding a table for us. As we were led to the table, I could see that the table was set up, with a placard on the tabletop. It was nice.

We were each given a menu as we were seated. The waitress offered us coffee. The coffee was delicious and just the right temperature. She mentioned the daily specials and made recommendations to help us decide.

By the way, the Family Pancake House offers everything from breakfast to dinner items. It is not just for breakfast.

The breakfast items we ordered (I had French Toast) were scrumptious. They were, also, the right temperature. Nothing was too hot nor too cold. You could tell the items were freshly prepared and served. Nothing was left to sit around under the heating lamp. That is always a strong selling point for me. We only waited about 10 minutes for our entrees. Nice.

The service was excellent and our orders were not mixed up. Coffee and beverages were refilled without us asking. The wait staff did not rush us to finish, which some establishments may do. We felt very welcomed. In fact, there was a strong sense of community in this place. Some long timers were called by their first names, and that was nice to hear and see. The wait staff seemed genuinely concerned about us patrons.

Our dirty dishes were cleared away quickly, which left us to sit at our table visiting without being surrounded by dirty dishes. That made for a pleasant time.

The meal checks were delivered promptly, without any of us having to ask for our check. That is just another example of the great service we received.

As many positive things that occurred during my dining experience, I still found the prices to be rather high for the portion sizes that were served. That is the only negative comment I can make about The Family Pancake House in Port Orchard, Washington.
