Review of Feliway, the Product that Makes Your Cats Nicer

I am an owner of 2 cats with 2 distinct personalities. Allie is my older cat and tends to be more stand-offish and runs from people she doesn't know. Daisy is friendly and happily approaches anyone for a little petting. I originally bought Feliway because I had heard that it can make cats friendlier and more receptive to people.

According to the company "Feliway is an synthetic analogue of the feline facial pheromone which reproduces the familiarization properties normally produced by a cat when it deposits its own facial pheromones in the environment." It is used for help with behavior problems such as: urine marking, vertical scratching, loss of appetite, avoidance of social contact. It is also used in the aids of calming cats during travel, during hospitalization, when moving to a new home, when introducing a new cat into a multi-cat household, and is useful in acclimating cats to new environments. I put the diffuser in the bedroom where Allie spends most of her time. After a couple of days I began to notice a difference. She began coming into the living room a little more and coming up to me to be pet more often. As time went on she became friendlier. While she still retained her personality and did not become as friendly as Daisy there was a difference that I was able to notice. The diffuser last around a month just as the package said it would. I didn't refill the diffuser right when it ran out to see what effect it would have on my cats. After a short amount of time I could notice that Allie was reverting back and becoming more stand-offish.

I didn't refill for about 2 months and while Allie did become more stand-offish during that period she did not completely go back to how she was in the beginning. Some of the friendlier traits that she picked up while the Feliway was present did stay. After I refilled the Feliway she became friendlier within a couple of days. All in all for the purposes I picked up Feliway for it was a good purchase and I would recommend it for anyone who has cats that are a little antisocial and would recommend it for someone who has a cat behavior problems.
