It is always entertaining to see what the contestants have to offer. There were some thoroughly amazing dancers, as well as others that made you question their sanity in thinking that they indeed COULD dance. Adding comedy to what could be a dry program. There is always a nice variety of types of dance on the show, there is literally something for everyone. Well, maybe not everyone. While this is for the most part a family friendly show, there were a few dancers whose blatantly sexual moves make it inappropriate for young viewers.
The judges are at the top of their game, showing that they do have some sort of experience when it comes to dancing. Each critique is clear in its reasoning, leaving no question as to whether it is a yes or a no. I appreciate how for each city they hold auditions in, they have a "guest" judge whose experience is specific to a certain genre of dance. Mary is entertaining to watch to say the least. And while she may be over the top and loud for some tastes, some contestants seem to make it a goal to catch her attention.
Giving their all in order to hear that Trademark Mary Scream! She has the ticket to the Hot Tamale Train!
Nigel is fair in his judgments, giving encouragement whenever possible. He is also never cruel. Which is a breath of fresh air in a reality show. However, don't waste their time with an audition that is simply looking for your 15 minutes of fame. So You Think You Can Dance is a show that is looking for the serious performer, not for someone who can add drama.
The length of the show, 2 hours, may be a bit much for some. It tends to drag a bit at the end. I always wish they would include a little more of the Choreography portion so the viewer can get a chance to see why some go through to Vegas and others don't. Also it would be nice to have seen some of the stories behind what brought certain dancers to the show. How they had to change their lives to get to where they are. Of course, that would turn it into a 3 hour program! So You Think You Can Dance has my attention for the season, and while I don't think that I can dance, it certainly makes me want to get off the couch and try!
