Review of the Fisher Price Rain Forest Bouncer/Jumperoo Entertainment Center

Fisher Price, certainly a trusted name in baby toys, has done it again. For those of us who don't have secure doorways for the traditional hanging bouncer, Fisher Price's Rain Forest Jumperoo gives a bouncer on legs. Three legs, that is, and with three height adjustments.

Some babies are swingers and some are bouncers. The bouncers will enjoy the cute stuffed frog hanging from a jungle leaf above them; the bright blue color with the spotted markings, while reminded me of poison dart frog, are fascinating to my little one. The red, yellow and blue parrot accompanies the frog on a different leaf.

For those not into intently staring at toys, a variety of spinners, from blue things to yellow suns, offer some fingertip play. And don't forget the AA batteries. This jumper bounces along with some upbeat monkey calls and music or rain forest fare. The more the baby bounces, the more music. No bounce, no music.

This inventive bouncer can be found at Babies R Us for about $80. Keep an eye out for sales flyers -- Babies R Us and Toys R Us frequently offer $5 off coupons for entertainment center, which is what this item is classed as. This items is also available at the respective online stores and can even be found on ebay ranging from $50 (with super high shipping costs) to over $100 (some with free shipping).

Assembly is pretty simple. Snap the metal rings into the plastic couplers. We did have one that didn't line up correctly. To get it to snap together, we had to undo the previous bar and snap the crooked one in first. It was a simple slight mispunch in the holes and the unit has worked fine and is stable. Only a go-together issue, not a safety hazard, and it probably hasn't occured in every unit.

The height adjustment requires you to flip the seat upside down and remove the straps. The seat can not slip down into a different position accidentally. In previous years I've had doorway mounted bouncers that would slowly slide down and get longer. That's not an issue with this frame supported bouncer.

The seat comes off for easy toss in the washer cleaning. Again, there is no way that this seat will accidentally come out. This is a safe and secure unit. The only potential issues are the hanging critters. The leaves that they suspend from are adjustable and can be raised up to keep the toys safely out of reach.

As bouncers go, this is a much better unit, both for entertainment value for the child and for the safety built in, than the cheaper door-mounted units. Will the frame, the unit can be placed in a common room so the infant isn't out of the way in the door. The frame also offers some slight fold up features to help reduce the amount of space taken up when not in use. Don't expect it to reduce in size too much.

As for my son, he's happy bouncing away to the rain forest music and monkey calls all while spinning the sun around or chewing on the handy attached fabric and plastic bug. He's especially fond of the it's fabric wings since he started teething....
