Review of Fit N Active Light Butter Popcorn

Brad Kamer

When trying to cut daily calories, every morsel that goes into the mouth needs to be counted. Weight can be maintained or even lost when accurately counting calories associated with the mid morning, mid afternoon, and late night snack. I have taken steps to maintain daily calorie consumption by eating popcorn for my late night snack. One of the trendy brands we have been testing lately is the Fit N Active product line offered from Aldi food stores. The family decided to try out the Fit N active light butter popcorn as a somewhat healthy snack.

Nutrition

The fit n active light butter microwave popcorn is sold as six bags to a box. Each bag of popcorn yields three servings of which each serving is approximately 100 calories. This serving size is about five cups of popped popcorn. The serving also yields about two and a half grams of fat and fifteen grams of carbohydrates. This is not the healthiest snack on the planet if you are carb counting, but this is a winner for those of us that diet based on calorie counting.

Taste

After comparing this popped product to the likes of Meijer, Pop Secret, and Smart Balance, there is no competition when it comes to taste. The Fit N Active brand wins hands down as a true buttery tasting popcorn without the guilt. It is almost a bad thing that the popcorn is this tasty because it is so easy to be tempted to eat the whole bag which defeats the whole calorie counting purpose. I was also astonished at how buttery my fingers got from touching this light version of a microwavable popcorn.

Quantity

I love the fact that this product is sold as six bags to a box. Most microwave popcorn companies sell their popcorn as three or four to a box. The bags are approximately the same serving size as the competition. The major drawback to this product is the amount of seeds that pop when the food is done heating up in the microwave. The printed popping instructions on the bag tell the purchaser to cook on high for one minute and forty five seconds. I do believe that is the correct cooking time as anything longer that approximately two minutes either dries or burns the popcorn. Even when cooking for the prescribed amount of time, the bottom of the popcorn bag always yields a large amount of unpopped kernals that are useless..

Price

The box of Fit N Active light butter popcorn sets one back only $1.49 plus tax. There are no other popcorn brands of this quality that will yield better value especially when considering the "six pack" of popcorn.
