For anyone that is familiar with smoking meat, you know that you must soak the wood chips for at least half an hour before putting your meat in the smoker and adding the flavored wood chips. Ideally, your wood chips should soak for over an hour. Yet, with these Flavorwood Grill Cans when I first tried them I noticed there was no preparation involved. All you had to do was place the can on your grilling surface and about five minutes after it was placed over the hot coals, smoke started to come from the can. This smoke was very consistent in the airflow from the can.
I was even more surprised when I tasted the meat. After sitting on the grill with the lid closed and the Flavorwood Grill Can inside the grill, the meat I removed from the grill had a very respectable smoked flavor. I used the hickory flavored Flavorwood Grill Cans, and the flavor was not as complex as the smoke flavor from smoking meat for six hours over a grill, it was a very good replacement for a half hour meal. The great thing I have found when using the Flavorwood Grill Can a few times since then is that this single can can be used for anywhere from three to five grill sessions on your grill. The Flavorwood Grill Can lasts as long as a traditional bag of wood chips, and is much easier to store. It also costs about half the price of the bag of wood chips.
Many times you will struggle to find certain types of wood chips at your local grocery stores, and you can only find them at specialty grilling stores. With Flavorwood Grill Cans flavors range from the traditional hickory to the harder to find types of wood including cherry wood, pecan wood, and apple wood. Pick up a six pack of these and keep them with your grilling supplies and you will have a variety of options for smoked meats that will last you anywhere from one to three months depending on how often you grill.
Flavorwood Grill Cans are definitely worth purchasing for the cheap retail price of $4 each. They may not be authentic when compared to the smoke you produce on a grill for smoking meat with wood chips over the course of many hours. What Flavorwood Grill Cans are though, is something that produces a resonably authentic smoked flavor for grill masters who don't have the time to smoke meat with a traditional method.

Post a CommentBought a six pack of these cans at overstock. Cherry, Apple, Peach, Alder, Mesquite and Hickory. They arrived this past Friday. Last night I used the peach. Placed it directly on my coals as instructed. Started smoking in about 2 minutes. At first I was impressed, however after smoking for about 5 minutes, it caught on fire (had to blow it out) and it stopped smoking within 15 minutes total time. The contents were practically gone. SO, thinking it was a DUD can, I used the Hickory. Again, started smoking within 2 minutes, stopped within 10 minutes - wouldnt smoke again. 3rd can, Mesquite... Started smoking in 2 minutes, (the mesquite smelled odd, not like the mesquite wood smoke that I am accustomed to) stopped smoking again in less than 15 minutes... would not smoke again. Needless to say, the remaining 3 cans out of the 6 that I purchased are permanently rehomed in our local dump. Will not use this product again.
