Review of the Four Horsemen DVD

Lee Andrew Henderson
The Four Horsemen are simply the best stable of all time in pro wrestling history. They might be the most legendary part of pro wrestling, not just the best stable. So of course it was only a matter of time before WWE released a Four Horsemen DVD.

The WWE DVDs have been outstanding so far, their DVDs are more entertaining than their television show. Naturally the Four Horsemen DVD had a lot of high expectations and it met everyone one of them.

I won't go into the matches much. If you're thinking about getting this DVD you probably have a good idea whether you like their matches or not. It's not the best collection of Four Horsemen matches in my opinion but if you like the Four Horsemen you'll like the matches.

Even if the matches aren't the best collection the documentary part of the movie makes up for it easily. The Four Horsemen is quite simply the best documentary the WWE has ever done and that's saying a lot because I love the ECW, Monday Night Wars, and Bret Hart documentaries.

The documentary is mostly told by Ric Flair, Arn Anderson and Tully Blanchard with others like Barry Windham, Triple H and Shawn Michaels also interjecting. First the documentary tells about how the members of the Four Horsemen met and how they formed, Ric Flair was brought in as a family member of the Andersons, and Tully Blanchard basically tagged with them just as a random tag team and it worked well.

As the documentary takes us through the history of the Four Horsemen the Horsemen highlight on all the great feuds and also every member that was ever in the Four Horsemen. The great thing about this documentary is that everyone who is interviewed is brutally honest with their opinions; there are no pulling punches in this documentary. Ric Flair, Arn Anderson and Tully Blanchard tell it like it is and say that Pyscho Sid had no skills and Paul Roma was the worst member in Four Horsemen history. Paul Roma was also interviewed for this segment and sure didn't make himself look good by lashing out at the Four Horsemen by calling Arn a "doughboy" and Ric Flair and 97 year old man. They also admitted that Jeff Jarrett did not fit in the Four Horsemen.

Most of the other members of the Four Horsemen were pretty well liked. When talking about Chris Benoit, Arn Anderson said that he wished Chris Benoit was there to take Ole's spot when he left because he fit the group perfectly and wished they didn't have to go through all the other failed versions before the Pillman and Benoit version. The Four Horsemen even had nice things to say about Steve "Mongo" McMichael even though he wasn't the best wrestler.

The Four Horsemen was a great trip down memory lane and a great piece of wrestling history. All the interviews are very insightful and a lot of fun. The Four Horsemen DVD is definitely a must have for any wrestling fan.
