Review of Freecyle Online Recycling Group

With budgets tightening up more and more, any little extra can go a long way. So check out Freecyle to for a chance to get something you want for free!

Freecyle was started as a way to keep items out of the garbage. The premise was that even though you don't want something anymore, instead of putting in out with the trash, give it to someone else. The community of freecyle connects both those who have items to give away with people who might want those exact items, thereby keeping tons and tons of items out of our growing landfills.

My family and I are freecyle junkies. As soon as we learned about this opportunity we signed up at freecyle.org. Signing up is fairly easy and you will start receiving e-mails right away. Just read through to see if there is anything that you might want. Really the best part about freecycle is all the free stuff! Often times you can get nice items for free! One of the best things we got from freecyle was an ad for hockey equipment that included 3 hockey jerseys. They were in such good quality that my son received them as a Christmas present and he couldn't even tell they weren't brand new! Freecyle is great for toys or clothes that your kids need but might quickly grow out of. Think of it as a giant yard sale and enjoy sifting through to find that perfect treasure!

While free stuff is always nice, even things for free usually have a price. The major problem with freecyle is just how hard it is to actually get the free item. Items listed are gone almost as fast as they are posted. If you are not responding to an ad minutes after it is posted then you are too late. Depending on the size of the area you sign up for, you can also be bombarded with a huge amount of e-mails and this can get overwhelming to sort through. Top that off with ads for people "wanting" items (instead of giving them away) and people posting when items are taken and you can get hundreds of e-mails a day. On the other hand, if your area is too small you won't receive any e-mails at all and then the site really isn't worth it.

Freecycle is a great idea and a great opportunity for anyone trying to save a buck or two these days. It may take some effort (and a small amount of hassle) to finally receive your first item, so you have to decide if the struggle was worth the price, which in this case was free! Usually free stuff is worth just about anything, but that is up to you to decide how valuable your time is. I encourage you to try it and see if you end up a freecyle junkie like my family!
