Review: Fritos Tapatio Flavored Corn Chips

My first experience with Tapatio hot sauce came shortly after college when I was working for a very popular hotel chain location in Arizona. A few of my fellow coworkers regularly brought in homemade tamales, tortillas, and other treats for the staff, made in their very own kitchens. On the break room table sat an industrial sized bottle of Tapatio, which always seemed to disappear at an alarming rate. Not familiar with this particular brand, I decided to try it and fell in love. Ever since, there's always a bottle of the stuff somewhere in my kitchen.

That's why I was so excited to see Fritos Tapatio Flavored Corn Chips at my local convenience store. And not only did they contain Tapatio, they had the delightful twists that I really liked from Fritos. Was I a bit nervous that my high expectations for my favorite hot sauce wouldn't measure up? Of course!

Truth be told, the taste wasn't exactly like Fritos covered in Tapatio. (Which, yes, I will admit to doing in the past.) However, Fritos Tapatio Flavored Corn Chips actually had a delightful heat to them which captured the basic essence of the hot sauce flavor.

Paired with a turkey sandwich for lunch, the spiciness of this snack was not overwhelming. In fact, added a handful between the bread and meat slices added a crunchy fun touch. (C'mon, I can't be the only one out there who puts chips on a sandwich, now can I?)
