Review of the Garmin Forerunner

Everyone runner whether they are serious runners or run just for fun, knows how hard it is to memorize different courses and times your run. The Garmin Forerunner 101 is in fact much much more then this though. It has a GPS system built in. This is a big plus especially for those runners who enjoy running trails, but do not always remember all of them. Also, if a runner gets lost all they have to do is either retrace their path on the forerunner or head back to their starting point, simply by looking at the Garmin Forerunner 101.

Other features include but are not limited to an altimeter, average pace, speed, distance, training partner, history of past runs/workouts, as well as a distance notification. The Garmin Forerunner 101 takes all the complications out of running and makes it simple again. The altimeter is great for hill runs and determining how long it took you to climb so many feet. For this reason, it is also a useful tool for hikers and climbers alike. The average pace, speed, and distance calculators are even more useful making workouts and long runs a breeze. Also, the Garmin Forerunner 101 records all of your previous runs. In fact it has the ability to store almost two years worth of previous run data. Simply connect the Garmin Forerunner 101 to your computer and you have the ability to see all run data in the form of lists, graphs, charts, and even maps. This feature allows you to track your progress and improvements for months at a time. Another key feature of the Garmin Forerunner 101 is its distance notification and training partner. The Garmin Forerunner 101 beeps when you reach a certain distance so you can turn around and hit the distance you specified. Also, you can set a pace or a workout you'd like to perform and when ever you go too fast or too slow it will beep until you adjust.

The only major con with the Garmin Forerunner 101 is its size. It is a bit bulky and being a runner myself, I like to keep everything as light as possible. Most runners buy extra light shoes and clothing to improve their performance so it does not make much sense to add such a bulky item. However, the wrist/arm band is comfortable and does not inhibit the runners running motion in any way.

The Garmin Forerunner 101 is an excellent product for anyone who loves running, hiking, or the outdoors. Prices range from $70 to $100 depending on whether it is new or used.
