Not too long ago I needed a way to leave a key available for a contractor and an inspector at my investment property. So I went to Home Depot in search of a lockbox. I found the GE AccessPoint Keysafe Original on display. The lockbox package had an image of a boy with a backpack on his bag poised to input numbers on the lockbox. From the packaging it looks the lockbox would be simple to use. Even a child could use it.
I took the GE AccessPoint Keysafe Original back to the house to set up. I opened the package and took out the GE lockbox. I removed the front of the lockbox and looked at the instructions. I was instructed to set the pin number so I did. The lockbox comes with a special plastic pin setter tool you can use to push the buttons down and turn them to set them from inside the box. It took a couple of attempts for me to set the lockbox code, but I got it. My main concern was that I would set the lockbox wrong and not be able to use it. I tested the lockbox a couple of times and I was ready to go.
After placing the key in the GE lockbox attaching it to a metal ring on the inside, I set it out in the back door. I passed along the lockbox code to a vendor who had no problem with opening the lockbox with the code I provided.
The only downside to the GE AccessPoint Keysafe Original is that it doesn't include a way to hang the lockbox to the door. I would have to purchase some wire or a hook to hang the lockbox. Another alternative is to screw mount the lockbox into a post or the side of the house if you use the lockbox on a regular and continual basis.
The GE is worth the price of $30 if you're going to get a lot of use out of it. The lockbox is convenient to not have if you're not going to be available at your house to let a contractor or another individual into your property.
There are many lockboxes available and I'd recommend the GE AccessPoint Keysafe Original as a choice to consider purchasing for your home.
