Review of the Gelato Cafe at the MGM Grand at Foxwoods in Ledyard, Connecticut

A Great Place to Get Some Gelato or a Quick Meal

jps246
Whenever I'm heading through the connector mall between the Foxwoods Casino-Resort complex and the newer, MGM Grand at Foxwoods Casino and Hotel, I almost always stop for something at the Gelato Cafe. The cafe, which is located in the connector between the two casino resorts and is about halfway through the pedestrian mall that links the two casino resorts, though it is considered part of the MGM Grand at Foxwoods Casino complex. The Gelato Cafe is a quick service restaurant that offers breakfast pastries, gelato along with sandwiches, salads and coffee drinks.

There isn't anything fancy about the Gelato Cafe, except for perhaps their presentation and its overall decor. The sandwiches and salads are all prepared and displayed in the cases and the design of the cafe itself is interesting.

I like the Gelato Cafe when I'm looking for something a bit more involved than just coffee and a danish, but I don't want to be bothered with one of the full service restaurants at Foxwoods. You can get a fairly filling meal really quick and you won't have to spend a ton of money. My biggest problem going up the place is that I can't decide what I want. The salads all look great and there's a ton of different sandwiches, wraps and panini to choose from.

One of the nice things about the Gelato Cafe is that it has fairly reasonable prices for a casino restaurant. You'll spend between $2 and $5 for the various pastries, about $5 for the gelato and the sandwiches and salads run anywhere between $8 and $10.

Service speed really depends on how many people are waiting on line in front of you. I've been there when I've been the only customer and other times I've waited in fairly long lines to get something. Generally though it's only a few minutes at the most and the people that I've run across that work there have all been pleasant and helpful as you pick out what you'd like to eat.

There's no specific dining area for the cafe, just walk up to the counter, order your food and then take it away. On the other side of the connector, up against a series of windows is a seating area that's a mix of tables and lounge chairs where you can eat your meal or enjoy your gelato. For us, we'll do that at times, or just take it with us since we're grabbing something as we're on our way out of the casino. I enjoy sitting in the area though, as the view from the windows is out into the woods and it's interesting to watch all the people going back and forth between Foxwoods and the MGM Grand at Foxwoods.

My only real warning about the Gelato Cafe is that everything is pre-made (even the panini, they are just toasted when you order them), so if there's something on a sandwich that you don't like, you're going to have to pick it off yourself since you can't have them make one without it.

For me, whenever I'm at Foxwoods, I keep the Gelato Cafe in the back of my mind. I have found it to be a quick quick, easy and reasonably priced place to get a snack, some gelato or a sandwich.
