Review of the Gemeinhard Model SP-2

Gemeinhardt Flutes Are Known for Quality

Crystal
When many flutists begin playing the flute, they soon learn that the name Gemeinhardt represents beauty, quality, and tonal purity. In fact, many beginning flutists start learning to play the flute on other brands, only to dream of owning a Gemeinhardt. Once obtaining a Gemeinhardt, the reasons are obvious:

History. As mentioned, every flute player knows about the Gemeinhardt brand. As a testament to their high level of craftsmanship, Gemeinhardts still carry the name of the master craftsman who first developed them - Kurt Gemeinhardt.

Reputation. Gemeinhardt flutes and piccolos are known for providing musicians with instruments that are acoustically pure and mechanically correct. They have been doing this for years. My Model SP-2 is no exception. It definitely lives up to its reputation.

Quality. It is a well known fact that Gemeinhardt manufactured flutes are high quality band instruments. They are built to last and the workmanship is unparalleled.

Versatile. Gemeinhardt makes different styles for various levels of flutists. From the beginning flutist to the advanced, professional level flute - Gemeinhardt has something for everyone. This review is about the Model SP-2 which is a silver plated, closed hole, student model. I prefer the closed holes over the open, so this model is great for me.

Tonal quality. The tonal quality in the Model SP-2 is fantastic. There is no distortion whatsoever. Other flute brands I have played sound muffled and unclear. This is not so with this Gemeinhardt model.

Easy to play. The notes are easy to hit, with no additional effort needed to hit any notes located in either the low nor high octave. In fact, this instrument plays as smooth as spreading soft butter on bread.

Price. There is a Gemeinhardt flute for all price brackets. It didn't used to be that way when I was growing up. My Model SP-2 was perfectly priced for what I was looking for and needed.

Care Instructions. Each new flute and piccolo purchased from Gemeinhardt comes with a Care & Maintenance Instruction booklet. This is helpful in keeping my Model SP-2 in tiptop condition. The instructions include sections on storing the flute, putting it together, and putting it away.

Seeing that my SP-2 is silver plated, as mentioned, there is a section on 'Tarnish prevention tips' to help me maintain the finish of my flute. The silver-plated models require extra care due to the silver being susceptible to deterioration due to perspiration acids, corrosive atmospheres, etc.

Limited Warranty. My Gemeinhardt Model SP-2 comes with a limited warranty which covers against defective material and workmanship. This limited warranty excludes normal wear or deterioration - which is a common exclusion for any band instrument.

Overall, once receiving my Model SP-2 Gemeinhardt, the sound quality is so superb, I highly recommend Gemeinhardts to any musician. This is without any reservation on my part.
