Maggie Valleys' Ghost Town Theme Park

Ghost Town In The Sky, located in beautiful Maggie Valley at the foot of the Great Smoky Mountains, is a wild west themed park suitable for all ages. Upon arriving at the park you enter the welcome center where an extensive gift shop is located, as well as the ticket booths. Once your ticket is purchased you can choose one of two way to get to the park, which is located on the top of the mountain. Most people choose the chairlift, or if you don't care for the 75' drops you'll be dangling over, you can ride the incline railroad. Either way getting to the park is half the adventure itself.

Once you exit the chairlift you are face to face with an authentic looking wild west town. Both sides are lined with shops, theaters, restaurants and live shows, and historical displays. But be careful while walking down the street, it's not uncommon for the Ghost Town Bank to be robbed by masked gunmen. These outlaws are immediately confronted on the street by the Sheriff and his men, and a shootout quickly occurs.

After visiting all the shops and shows on Main St., you can head over to the county fair section of the park. This section contains many of the original rides from when the park was first opened in the 1960s, as well as many modern ones. On the "Octopus" ride, the riders are actually hanging off the side of the mountain as the ride makes its' turns through the air. The main attraction of the rides however is definitely the Cliffhanger rollercoaster, formerly known as the Red Devil. This is a one of a kind roller coaster, built entirely on the side of the mountain.

Throughout the day there are constant shows with the cowboys, dancing girls, and Cherokee Indians for you to enjoy. There are also numerous pay to play game booths where you can try your hand at winning some prizes.

Ghost Town is definitely an all day trip, but should you have some time left over at the end of the day Maggie Valley has multiple shopping villages and craft stores for your enjoyment. The Cherokee Indian Reservation is a short 20 minute drive away as well. In Cherokee there are numerous shops, shows, and zoos to enjoy. This beautiful location in western North Carolina is a very good vacation spot.
