Review of Gino's in Hot Springs, Arkansas

Jamie Burke
Money has been very tight lately, so when we do get to go out to eat, we want to get our money's worth. I think we found exactly the place we were looking for the other day when we ate at Gino's. It's a Chicago-style Italian restaurant found right here in Hot Springs, Arkansas. It also has another location in Little Rock.

When you first walk into the Hot Springs location, you see the counter that you order at, which has glass blocking off the grilling area. On the glass is the menu. The menu is large, easy to read with great pictures so you'll know exactly what you are getting. At first we thought it was going to be expensive, after all, it was $5.99 for a six inch Philly cheese steak sandwich. We thought differently after getting our order. The sandwich was huge and the meat and all the trimmings were piled high.

I had ordered the Philly cheese steak sandwich combo, which actually ran about $7.50. That includes a large drink, which can be refilled for free, and a huge mound of seasoned French fries. It was way more than I could eat. It was full of flavor and absolutely the best Philly cheese steak sandwich that I've had around Hot Springs.

My husband ordered the Philly Steak fries for $7.99. This was a huge mound of French fries with cheese sauce smothered on and covered with the meat mixture like what was on my sandwich. That includes tomatoes, onions, jalapenos, and bell peppers. The jalapenos were just the right touch on both the sandwich and the fries. Not too much of a hot kick to it, but just enough to make your taste buds go "wow!"

Our son ordered the twelve inch Chicago- style hot dog. It also had all of the trimmings on it - onions, bell peppers, tomatoes, jalapenos, cheese and mayonnaise. For just the hot dog, it is $4.99, but he also had fries and a large drink, which ran it up to about $6.99. It was an all beef hot dog that had been grilled.

Of course, we all had ordered something different so that we could sample each other's food. I must say, all of it was fantastic! That hot dog had the best flavor I've ever tasted and the Philly Steak fries were amazing with the cheese sauce. The sauce wasn't just on top of the fries, but poured on throughout. Other restaurants tend to skimp out on the cheese sauce, these guys didn't! Instead, they laid it on thick! Yum!

For the three of us to eat, it cost us right at $28. That's more than we would have spent had we gone to a fast food restaurant. But that wasn't what we wanted. It was well worth the price for the humongous amount of food that we ate.

Gino's also offers a lot of other items on the menu. I plan on another visit to check them out just as soon as I can. They offer a Philly chicken sandwich, hamburgers, meatball subs, salads and pizza.

The salads look very good. They offer a Philly Steak salad and a Philly Chicken salad for $7.99 each. They also have a Garden salad for $3.99.

The pizzas come in 8 inch, 16 inch, and 18 inch sizes, ranging in price from $5.99 to $15.99. They offer the typical pizza toppings, but then they also have their specialties like Philly Steak or chicken. You can also order one with hot dogs on it!

The guys that were running Gino's in Hot Springs were friendly, clean and very efficient.

The building in which Gino's resides has seen a lot of restaurants come and go. I sure hope that Gino's is planning on staying and that the residents of Hot Springs learn what a gem we have! If I were to give these guys a star rating, I'd give them a five out of five!
