Review: The Glade Flameless Candle Leaves Me Less Than Thrilled

Beth Callahan
Okay, I admit it. I am an air freshener junkie. I love all of the different types of air freshener contraptions that come out and usually have to try them. So, when Glade came out with the Flameless Candle I had to go out and purchase it. I was looking for a new freshener in my living room/dining room area since my previous one had went dead. The Flameless Candle was on the shelf amongst the other fresheners and refills at a shocking price of about $10.00. I was a little weary of spending that much on an air freshener but I splurged. Glade disappointed me a little with the Flameless Candle and I am going to let you in on what to expect.

Appearance

The Glade Flameless Candle comes with a frosted glass "candle" holder and a battery operated mechanism that holds the freshener refill and light. It is very easy to assemble and it takes less than five minutes to get up and running. You sit the mechanism into the candle holder so that it is not visible. The candle looks very crisp and can fit into any décor.

Freshening

The Flameless Candle does have an intensity setting that allows you to decide the amount of delay between puffs. Small puffs of fragrance are dispersed into the air from the top of the "candle" all the time. You cannot turn off the scent unless you remove the batteries. The Flameless Candle does not work well in larger areas or areas that do not have any air movement. I cannot pick up the scent unless I am standing fairly close to the candle.

Flame

The candle has a very orange flickering light that does appear to flicker like a candle flame. It is a light that fills the holder with a soft glow but does not really light up anything outside the holder. The "flame" is a little too orangey to be a believable candle light. It does create a soft glow that is pleasant to look at in a darkened room.

In conclusion, the Glade Flameless Candle is a pretty addition to a décor but not really that great as an air freshener unless you are trying to scent a small area. The Flameless Candle might be worth it for a smaller cost. Find the Glade Flameless Candle in the air freshener aisle at any grocery or retail store and try it for yourself

I love the flameless candles! It feels very safe putting it around the house and the fragrance is amazing! I was looking for the flameless candles all over and couldn't find it, until recently a friend told me she bought at Qcandles. I gave it a try, and really liked it. I love the different designs, it really fits the house :)

    Dawn,
How would you know what that smells like, urine that has been sitting in sheets????

    Mel,
The fact that you are here reading this is even more strange.

Check out the Minus Wicks product from For Every Body (www.foreverybody.com). It's flamless and waterbased, which makes it really safe for use arounds kids and pets. If you don't like strong fragrance, you can just leave it in the open air, or for stronger fragrance, put it on a candle warmer. There are like 9 fragrances to choose from!

In all fairness I must post that I did contact SC Johnson regarding the problem with 2 of my Glade Flameless Candles and they replied very promptly. They are sending me two coupons for free replacement of my candles that no longer work. I beleive that this is excellent customer service and that they care about the consumer who buys their products. They also stated they will advise their QA people regarding this problem. I will give them another try with the free replacements and hope for the best.

I bought three of these Glade Flameless Candles less than 6 months ago and only one is still working. I changed the batteries twice and they still don't work. I am very dissapointed in them. Don't waste your money. If you want good reliable flameless candles go to QVC website and purchase Candle Impressions flameless candles. I've had mine for over three years and they are STILL WORKING. I won't buy Glade ever again!

Actually, around $10.00 was its debut price and it was purchased at Walmart.

i did not like the flameless candle product. the scent was quite strong at its lowest setting and found that the glass globe was very ugly...it looks horrible in my room. blasted candle!

I just yesterday bought two of these and I must say I really like them. I put one in my bathroom and can smell it down the hall into my family room and only have it on the lowest setting. I wasn't expecting alot so maybe that is why I'm not disappointed with it.
