Built in 1920 due to the popularity of movie theaters, Gothic Theater became the first in Englewoods to show sound movies.
By 1998 however, Gothic Theater went bankrupt and the city threatened to tear the historical theater down, until two music lovers bought the theater and renovated it, keeping with it's original roaring 20's art deco and housing live music from local musical artists as well as bands that are known, but haven't made it big yet.
Keeping with the original theater's style, the exterior lighted marquis, showcases musical artists who will be playing at the theater in the near future. There is even a ticket booth outside which blends in with the original theater's theme.
Once inside, you'll notice the 1920's rounded walls and recessed coves that still remain intact today. There is a main level and a balcony that wraps around the theater. There is a dance floor directly in front of the musical stage for those who want to dance to the band, however, seating is limited on the main level. You'll want to get there a little early if you want a table in front downstairs, but if you don't mind being in the balcony, there is plenty of comfortable plush seating there.
There is no smoking allowed in the theater, however there is a bar that is fully stocked, on both the main and balcony level floor as well as a soda and snack bar.
All in all, the only real downfall to Gothic Theater is the parking. To prevent a parking hassle, you may want to park several blocks down and walk to the theater from there.
Gothic Theater does offer hosting packages for private events such as wedding receptions, graduation parties, and business meetings. The theater has 11,000 square feet of room on two different levels and there is seating for 500 guests. Gothic Theater also offers catering as well as use of all of the bars. For hosting package rates, you will need to call the theater at: (303) 788-0984, since rates are based on specific needs.
