Grandview State Park offers multiple picnic areas for family events and picnics. Also, the park has a few picnic shelters that can host hundreds of people. Grandview State Park has a volleyball court, horse shoe throwing area, softball field, swings and slides for the kids.
Grandview State Park has multiple overlook areas located throughout the park where you can view the beautiful scenery of mountains and the New River.
One unique overlook in called Turkey Spur where you have to walk up around 100 plus steps to reach the top of the overlook which is really a combination of a couple of huge rocks. On the way up to Turkey Spur overlook there's a crack in the rocks that provides cool air year round.
There are many hiking trails throughout Grandview State Park where you can view wildlife with the majority being deer that roam throughout the park.
One of the most common visited areas is the main overlook where you get a spectacular view of the New River Gorge area. Also, located in this area in a trail that leads you to natural tunnels or caves as some people call them where you can go through them. A few of the tunnels have been closed by the Park Service due to collapses, but there's still a couple that you can go through that are lighted. Children love going through these tunnels.
One of the main draws to Grandview State Park is their outdoor theater where the park puts on plays such as the classic Honey and the Rock and the Hatfield and McCoy's. Ticket prices to most of the shows cost around $15 to $17 dollars a piece. The shows are conducted during the summer months. The shows are very good and provide a unique experience if you're looking for something new to try. Most shows at Grandview State Park start between 6-8 p.m.
There are nice public restrooms located throughout the park that is clean and well taken care of. One thing to note is that the park employees lock some gates inside the park at dusk so be sure to leave the park before darkness.
