Review of Grapeseed Shower Gel by the Body Shop

Lori Leidig
Men. Lars spends a great deal of time whining to his friends about all my girrrly expenditures. Shoes and purses are his number one gripe, with my variety of shower gels & lotions coming in a close second. Look. I like sets, aiight? The tide has turned now, though, by gawd. I caught him using my Grapeseed Shower Gel from the Body Shop after he fell in love with the matching Body Butter. HA!

My current favorite shower cleanser is actually the Body Shop's Shea Shower Cream, but you cannot buy it in the US, or on their website. I've only been able to find it in their physical store in Malmo, Sweden. Unfortunately, I ran out while on our last trip to the US so I had to pick something else out. The Grapeseed line was on sale, so I decided to go ahead try that. I loved the Grapeseed body butter, as did Lars. We also both love this Shower Gel.

Being in a clear bottle, the light green gel shows through, enticing you into a mental coolness... and it is indeed luxuriously cool & refreshing as the color promises. It is a thin gel so it squeezes out readily from the spout under the flip-up lid. Be careful you don't get too much of it the first time. It will come out fast if you're not real careful.

The scent is the same lovely smell as the accompanying butter: very light & airy. Refreshing, even. Now, it does smell to me of grapes, but Lars insists that what he smells is umm watermelon. Either way, it smells like Spring. Very uplifting and invigorating.

This Grapeseed Shower Gel lathers up just wonderfully, too. Lots and lots of heavenly suds from just a tiny drop of gel. One of the things I like so much about the Shower Creams is that they easily double as shaving creams, which means one less bath item fighting for space on the tub rim. While this gel isn't as good as the shower cream line for shaving, it still is good enough in that department. The inclusion of Glycerin in this gel make shaving much more pleasant with it than with most shower soaps.

That glycerin is also wonderful in that it "is an effective moisturizer which helps improve softness and maximize hydration." (bodyshop.com) And it does indeed improve softness, and aids in re-hydrating my aging skin. Slathering on the companion butter after my shower is almost an orgasmic experience.

The main ingredient is, of course, Grapeseed Oil: "grapeseed oil is very rich in essential fatty acids that help to repair the skin's moisture barrier, thus helping to restore smoothness and suppleness ." (bodyshop.com)

Together, those two ingredients make for a very enjoyable shower. The scent wakes me up wonderfully, the lather is as luxurious as advertised, and the end effect is wonderful. 5 stars for the Grapeseed Shower Gel. Highly recommended.

I love Body Shop products and have been using them since the first store appeared in Toronto in 1978 or so... my Aunt lived in Toronto and would send me their products as gifts, later they had shops all across Canada. When I first came to Texas there were none until 1992 or 3 so I was dependent on my parents to send me the stuff for Christmas and Birthdays. My favorites are the cocoabutter body butter and the Vitamin E facial care products.
