Beautiful Décor, Good Food , Average Service

Frisco has another Chinese buffet to enjoy. The Great Wall Super Buffet on Preston Road opened this week after a long construction related delay.

Apparently the wall was a bit too great- eight feet be exact. After they finished construction they found that the building was eight feet too high according to local restrictions and actually had to shorten part of the building to meet height restrictions.

Overall the food and service was ok but the dining room makes it worth a visit.

The Décor: By far the nicest Chinese Buffet I've ever been to

Apparently no expense was spared when it came to the décor although for some reason it reminded me of the midnight buffet on a cruise ship. The dining room was beautiful but it was still just a buffet.

In addition to attractive tables, chairs and booths they took great care in decorating the dining room with several Chinese statues and wall decorations. Everything went well together with the exception of the neon "Restroom" sign which really seemed out of place.

Prices, a bit high but somebody had to pay for that dining room

Lunch is $9.95 but dinner will set you back $12.95 each. Kids 3-6 are $4.95. Soft drinks are $1.95 with varying amounts for drinks from the bar.

The food: Typical Chinese buffet food quality but there were a few unique items

For dinner I counted a total of 81 unique items- not counting sauces, condiments, etc. They had all the normal items including plenty of seafood and sushi. Lunch had basically the same setup.

I've always judged Chinese restaurants by their sesame chicken and Great Wall Super Buffet came through just fine. One item that oddly stuck out was their beef egg rolls. Normally you would find chicken or some sort of seafood egg rolls but their beef egg rolls were great. I also noticed that they made some interesting fruit choices. I can't remember the last time I went to a Chinese buffet that didn't have watermelon but it was also the first time I saw fresh blueberries.

Dessert was a bit lacking. They had the mandatory ice cream machine along with a sampling of about ten different choices of cakes and cookies. None were really that impressive. Of course by that time we were all too full to care much.

Service: Attentive but there were some real language barriers

Both the lunch and dinner service was very attentive with no delays on drink refills or clearing plates. English skills were mixed though. The waitress I had for lunch spoke very good English but the waiter I had for dinner spoke very little. To be honest I probably speak more Chinese than he speaks English and I'm only half way through Rosetta Stone Volume 1. But fortunately this is just a buffet so English skills aren't really that important

My husband and I have been wanting to try the Great Wall Buffet, so we went tonight. We were a little surprised by the high price, but tried it out anyway. Half-way through the meal, he cut into a piece of sweet n sour chicken and a large piece of plastic was sticking out of the middle of it. We let the waitress know and she took it to the manager. They said they didn't know how that happened. We assumed they would at least comp us or something, but nope...nothing. They even overcharged us and we had to have our bill adjusted. Plus, the food was awful. It all seemed as though it had been sitting out for a long time. Terrible experience.
