Green Giant Creamed Spinach

Joshua McMorrow-Hernandez
Green Giant is pumping out some classic recipes among their line of frozen vegetables. This great-tasting Green Giant Creamed Spinach is a favorite that can be found in a 10-ounce carton in your local grocer's frozen section. Green Giant Creamed Spinach brings the health of spinach and the delicious goodness of a cream sauce and combines the two for a flavorful snack or side dish I enjoy.

Preparation

Green Giant Creamed Spinach can be prepared either on the stove top or in a microwave.

Microwave

Poke a small slit into the middle of the pouch of creamed spinach.

Then, after placing the pouch onto a microwave-safe plate and covering the pouch with a paper towel, place the creamed spinach into your microwave oven and begin cooking on HIGH for 2 minutes. After the creamed spinach has cooked for 2 minutes, open your microwave and give the pouch a quarter turn.

Resume cooking the creamed spinach for another 3 to 5 minutes on HIGH. Let the food stand in the pouch for about 2 minutes then pour the very hot creamed spinach into a bowl or onto a plate.

On the Stove Top

Bring a 3-quart pot of water to a rapid boil and then place the unopened pouch of Green Giant Creamed spinach into the water, letting the pouch heat in the boiling water for 16 minutes.

After the first 8 minutes of cooking, turn the pouch of creamed spinach over and continue cooking for 8 more minutes. Carefully remove the very hot pouch of creamed spinach from the pot of boiling water and then empty the food onto a plate or into a bowl.

Flavor

Green Giant Creamed Spinach has a very buttery flavor, though the sauce is made from margarine and a non-dairy creamer.

As for the spinach, it's a chopped spinach that has good texture. Some spinach can get a little strandy, but this Green Giant spinach is cut a good length - it's neither minced up in a soupy mess nor filled with whole leaves as sometimes found in spinach offerings.

Nutrition

Because of the margarine and non-dairy cream in this Green Giant Creamed Spinach, the fat numbers for a serving of this vegetable are held down substantially. Sodium, however, is an area you may wish to double-check before eating this meal, especially if you're on a low-sodium diet.
