Vegetables can be hard to get into our diet - they usually have to be prepared, and that can take time. Thankfully, Green Giant makes it easy to squeeze vegetables into our day with tasty choices, like Brussels sprouts & butter sauce. Green Giant's baby Brussels sprouts & butter sauce is a convenient and healthy choice for those times when you want to cook up a tasty vegetable either as a snack or a side dish.

Green Giant's Brussels sprouts are sold frozen in a box. The two handy cooking options make this a great snack for times when you just don't have the extra minutes to prepare a snack of healthy and good-tasting veggies.

On a Stovetop

Simply place the self-contained bag of Brussels sprouts & butter sauce into a large pot (3 quarts or larger) of boiling water for 20 minutes. Be sure you turn the bag over once after 10 minutes. Cut open the bag and remove the hot Brussels sprouts onto a plate.

In a Microwave

After cutting a small slit into the pouch, place the bag of Brussels sprouts onto a microwave-safe plate and heat on High for 2 minutes. Move the bag so it's rotated a quarter turn. Then, heat the Brussels sprouts on High for about 3 to 5 minutes longer, depending on how soft you want your Brussels sprouts; just be sure they're thoroughly heated.

I like my Brussels sprouts soft, so I've prepared them for about 7 minutes total in the microwave and 20 to 22 minutes stove top.

Flavor

I've got to hand it to Green Giant for making it easy for me to get Brussels sprouts into my busy day. Of course, it takes more than speed to get me to eat more vegetables -- taste is important, too. The butter sauce that comes with Green Giant's Brussels sprouts gives a very nice flavor to these little green, round, leafy veggies. After all, Brussels sprouts can taste bitter.

The butter sauce recipe has just enough sweet buttery flair to overcome the bitterness but doesn't overpower the taste of the Brussels sprouts themselves. That's a good thing for me, because I may not like bitter vegetables, but I don't want taste just a mouthful of butter sauce, either. Green Giant did a fine job here balancing out the flavors so as to make them tasty and palatable without sweetening them up too much. The distinctive flavor of the Brussels sprouts still comes through.

Nutrition

One major reason I like Green Giant's baby Brussels sprouts is because this dish packs a healthy helping of Vitamin C and dietary fiber without bringing a lot of calories, fat, or sugar.

Each 2/3-cup serving of Green Giant's Brussels sprouts has 60 calories and 10 calories from fat. There's just 1 gram of fat, 0.5 grams of saturated fat, and 0 grams of trans fat in the Brussels sprouts. Cholesterol comes in at less than 5 milligrams (mg). There are just 9 grams of carbohydrates and 3 grams of sugar.

While there is a fair amount of sodium in the Brussels sprouts - 320 mg - the 3 grams dietary fiber and 90% of daily Vitamin C intake outweigh the impact of the manageable amount of sodium.

Green Giant's Brussels sprouts can be found in your grocer's frozen section in a 10-ounce box.
