Have you ever been in the grocery store and forgotten the ingredients for your recipe? Were you in a hurry when you made your list and forgot to mark how many chicken breasts you needed? Handy Cookbook for the iPod Touch is an application you can download from the iTunes App Store. It allows you to input all your recipes into your iPod Touch so that you always have them with you.
Some nice features that Handy Cookbook has are:
Handy Cookbook gives the option of hand keying in your recipes (which is a tedious process) or you can click the icon in the bottom left of the main menu and it will give you a web server address so you can type the information into Handy Cookbook using your personal computer.
Handy Cookbook gives the option to categorize your recipes into different categories. For example, you can put all your crockpot recipes under one category. You can also customize this feature and create your own categories.
The application has a grocery list function. You can click on your recipe and in the bottom bar there will be a grocery cart. Click this icon and it will pull the recipe ingredients into the grocery list that you can access on the home screen.
Handy Cookbook allows you to rate your food using a five star system. This is good should you forget whether your husband liked the beef stroganoff or not.
Some setting options Handy Cookbook offers are the ability to use fractions and password protection. They have food icons that you can assign to your categories. Another option would be you can take your own picture (either using your iPhone or uploading a photo to your camera roll) and have an actual picture of the food be the icon for the recipe.
Final verdict on Handy Cookbook: It is a decent application that works well for what it does. It stores the information you need and is very user friendly. It should be noted this is not a free application so you will have to shell out a little money for it but all in all it is worth the small amount. The only negative I would say about the program is it's not very pretty. That being said, it's the functional part you need. The pretty aspect is just icing on the cake.
