A little background:

This is a review of the movie Harry Potter Deathly Hallows Part 1. Unless you've lived under a rock for the past few years you are probably familiar with the series. The author of the Harry Potter series is J.K. Rowling.

In the first book, the character of Harry Potter was attacked by the bad guy known as Lord Voldemort. His parents were killed during the battle. The two main characters have been bitter enemies ever since. Their struggles cumulated in the movie we have now, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

No background is given in this movie. It picks up where the last film left off. If you need a refresher course, click through this link.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1

This book covered so much ground that it had to be split into two parts. This review is about Part 1. Part 2 is scheduled for release in Summer 2011.

Fans have waited eagerly for this movie to arrive. The movie finally opened on Nov.18, 2010. The theater I visited was packed. The atmosphere was electric with anticipation.

As we entered the theater there was much chattering and joking. Movie goers were all in a good mood. Everyone was excited.

The mood when we left the theater was somber. There was very little talking. Those who did whispered to each other. It wasn't until we were outside that I heard anyone talking about Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

The plot dragged in places but was a good movie overall. Understanding Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is made much easier if you have read the book. Otherwise, you may become hopelessly lost.

Children are clamoring to see this movie. I would think twice before taking children to see this film. It is just not for them. Some of the scenes are frightening. It is a dark film.

Expect death, near dismemberment, death eaters, chases and lots of suspense. The film is true to the spirit of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows book.

Be forewarned. If you are an emotional type you'll need to bring tissues. When the villains are bad they are horrible. When the villains are horrible, they are even better.

In other words, it is J.K. Rowling at her finest.

Cinematography is top notch and the sets are stunning. The usual actors did a superb job. A few new faces were added to the mix. They performed admirably. Music for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 is very well done.

Overall, it's a great movie. Its not necessarily the most relaxing movie or the happiest. It is a must see nonetheless. It ends with a real cliffhanger that leaves you in suspense. Even if you've read the book you'll want to see Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 and you'll be on the edge of your seats to see the next installment.

Great review. Isn't it amazing JK Rowling created an empire around this character? It's like she's the modern day Walt Disney
