Iceland
Hilton Nordica is a 4-star facility located in Reykjavik, the capital city of Iceland. During our recent visit, we had the opportunity to spend the weekend at the wonderful resort as a part of the tour package purchased. Modern and contemporary, Hilton Nordica is located in the heart of the financial district of Reykjavik. It takes around 40-minute by car from the Keflavik International Airport and 20 minute from the downtown to reach the hotel.
Rooms
Hilton Nordica offers several room choices: Guest rooms, suites, deluxe and executive rooms. Our family of 4 was allotted two queen rooms with a connecting door in between. The kids were excited to have a room to their own. The décor was elegant and modern with Scandinavian touches. Wooden floors, plush mattresses and a comfy bed welcomed you to a room with large windows decked with sheer panels overlooking the mountains and the ocean. The view from the rooms were absolutely gorgeous!
Although small in size (as compared to many hotels in the U.S we have stayed in), the rooms were well equipped with flat panel LCD TVs, docking stations, minibars and separate working areas. Bathrooms were clean and carried an exclusive selection of toiletries. One of the rooms even had an extra sofa bed.
Amenities
Hilton Nordica has all the comforts of a 4-star facility. Guests can enjoy an onsite Nordic spa, fitness center, bar, bistro and a restaurant. Self-parking is complimentary and you have access to free Internet in the lobby and in the suites.
Business travelers have access to business, meeting and conference rooms. Family friendly services include babysitting services and high chairs and cribs.
Along with the restaurant, Hilton Nordica also has a bistro serving breakfast and lunch and a chic lobby bar-perfect to unwind during the happy hour.
The Vox
The Vox is Hilton Nordica's premium 5-star restaurant offering one of the most delectable breakfast buffets we have ever explored. A part of our package, the breakfast buffet is perhaps the most memorable part of the trip.
The restaurant has an urban look with white sleek furniture and glass tables sprawled along the room. The breakfast buffet features an extensive selection of Icelandic delights such as yogurt, trout and smoked lamb, along with other offerings like oatmeal, cereal, milk, fresh fruits, eggs cooked in several ways, fried potatoes, fresh pastries and bread. A wide variety of spreads, jams, jellies and specialty butter was also available. Sit, relax and explore the exclusive Nordic cuisine over a hearty cup of tea, coffee or orange juice.
Apart from the buffet offerings, lunch and dinner menu was expensive (just like everything else in Iceland is). We made most of the buffet that made worked as brunch for us. Dinner was either take out or at a restaurant in Center City.
Hotel Management
The management at Hilton was eager and keen to help. They provided us with extra electric adapters to work our laptops for a small nominal security fee. The staff was knowledgeable and kind enough to guide us to local attractions.
Location & Convenience
Regular complimentary shuttles are available from the hotel to the Center City. Although we didn't rent any car, the shuttles were convenient and accessible. Guests who wish to forego the expensive meals at the hotels have access to a couple of family-friendly restaurants in the vicinity. Other nearby points of interest includes Laugardalsvollur, Reykjavik City Hall, and Hallgrimskyrka.
Travel Tips
Even numbered rooms face the ocean and mountains.
Beds are smaller by American standard.
If weather permits, forego the cab and the shuttle and walk to the Center City. The stroll is amazing and
the meals are much cheaper.
