Review and History of In-N-Out Burger

Greg Seltz
For those residing or traveling to the Western United States, it is likely you are familiar with the privately owned fast food chain, In-N-Out. Rated as one of the top fast food chains in recent studies and surveys, the company has never franchised and remains under the ownership of Harry and Esther Snyder. Aside from freshly prepared menu items, what separates this fast food chain from others?

Initially, after interpreting the aforementioned title, I was hesitant to proceed into the In-N-Out drive-thru. However, associated passengers refused alternative options and thus guaranteed my approval. Skeptical of any menu that is limited to 3 items, I naturally ordered a simple "Double-Double," or double-meat & double-cheese. And surprisingly, a significant satisfaction was rewarded.

History of In-N-Out

Established in 1948, and since headquartered in Irvine, CA, the In-N-Out fast food chain has expanded to nearly 240+ locations. The company motto - "Give customers the freshest, highest quality foods you can buy and provide them with friendly service in a sparkling clean environment." Though initially, the company remained relatively small for the first 2 decades, In-N-Out President Rich Snyder succeeded his father's accomplishments and expanded the chain with 90 additional locations. Unfortunately, the late Harry Snyder would not live to experience the related growth. After constructing new openings in various locations throughout Nevada and Northern California, Rich would additionally suffer a premature fatality. In 1993, brother Guy would assume presidency and control the company for 6 years before again, another Snyder would pass away. The lone survivor, Esther, remained the president until 2006. Though the company is temporarily owned by an outside influence, sole grandchild of Harry and Esther will gain control throughout the next 12 years.

For those interested, I have inserted the link to the In-N-Out website below. Please acknowledge the secret menu items as well, assuming you would like to try other items prepared by the well-paid staff, who apparently receive 10$ per hour, well over the federally mandated minimum wage. For those who do not live within traveling distance to an In-N-Out location, I strongly recommend experiencing similar results during your next visit to the west coast.
