Review of Hollywood Undead

Daniel Jurado
Today, I will be reviewing a band. Hollywood Undead is a rap rock group from Las Angeles. There are six members in the band: Johnny 3 Tears (George Ragan), Charlie P. Scene (Jordan Terrel), Funny Man (DylanAlvarev), Deuce or Tha Producer (Aron Erlichman), Da Kurllz (Matthew St. Claire), and J-Dog (Jorel Decker). The band members wear masks while preforming and in public. They have released two albums, Swan Songs (2008), which is certified gold in the U.S., and Desperate Measures (2009). Most of this bands fame came from their extremely popular MySpace page. The band originated from a song titled "The Kids" posted on their Myspace page. J-dog stated that when forming the band, "Whoever was in the room at the time and played an instrument was in the band."

Their debut album was released in 2009 and titled Swan Songs, after the final song a swan sings before it dies. They said it would be ironic to title their debut album after something meaning an end. Swan Songs was going to release on MySpace Records, but they would have had to censor some of their songs. Instead, they switched labels to A&M/Octane, which would not require them to censor their songs. Swan Songs has been in and out of the top 200, and in July 2009, it was certified gold by the RIAA. They have released six singles from the album, No. 5, Everywhere I Go, Undead, City, Young, and Black Dahlia. They also released music videos for No. 5, Everywhere I Go, Undead, and Young.

In 2009, Hollywood Undead released a compilation album, Desperate Measures, which featured three previously unreleased songs, three covers, a remix, and six live songs from their concert in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The CD came with a 60-minute long DVD of the concert. There have been two singles from the album, Tear it Up, and Dove and Grenade.

They have recently released that they are working on material for another album. On April 1, 2010, the band made their own iheartradio station.

I love Hollywood Undead. They are one of my favorite bands, if not my favorite. Despite the fact, they are one of the most vulgar bands i have heard. Caution when listening to their albums. They swear in nearly every song, and there are often sex, drug, and alcohol comments. If you can live with that (I can) they are one of the best bands I have heard in a long time.
