Review of Hotel Arbuda at Mount Abu in India

Harishrai Mehta
Mount Abu is the most visited hill station in the Western side of India as it has lots of site seeing places, both historical and full of natural beauty all around. I myself love to visit this unique hill station every time I visit India. Accordingly, I visited Mount Abu very recently during my latest trip to India. Each such trip gives me the additional knowledge and information about the small and minute details on this hill station. I had an opportunity to visit Hotel Arbuda, full fledged restaurant serving almost all types of vegetarian dishes in Mount Abu during my last visit. I am going to write about this visit so that all my readers can get sufficient information on selecting a suitable restaurant for their meals at Mount Abu.

Hotel Arbuda is situated at the Arbuda circle very near to the famous Nakhi Lake in the central market area. This restaurant has been operating since last thirty years and is one of the key restaurants at Mount Abu. This restaurant is quiet large having sitting capacity of around 150 people at a time. The sitting arrangement and the layout of the restaurant is also quiet attractive. There is an air conditioned hall, specifically for the Gujarati thali eaters. There is also an air conditioned Western style restaurant on the first floor, where the lavish candle light dinner is served in the evening. The restaurant menu covers very large varieties in almost all types of Indian food delicacies. There are lots of fruit juices, soups, starters, available to start with. Each soup variety costs around Rs.50 ($1). The fresh fruit juices cost around Rs.30 (sixty cents) and is available in varieties like orange, grapes, mosambi, pineapple, mangoes, and mixed fruits. The vegetarian snacks like samosas, pakodas, burgers, pizzas, sandwiches, tasty paunbhaji, and the bhel and chat items are available at the cost of around Rs.40 (eighty cents). Around twenty four varieties of delicious South Indian delicacies like Idlis, Dosas, Uttapas, and the famous Medu Vadas are available at this restaurant and are served steaming hot. The standard Gujarati thali is also served during 12 noon to 3 pm and 6.30 pm to 9 pm here at this restaurant. This unlimited Gujarati thali consists of one sweet, one farsan, four vegetables, dal, rice, and the tasty chapattis with salad. Papads and prickle. Such thali costs Rs.60 ($1.20) per head. The curd, buttermilk and the mineral water if ordered are charged extra. The Chinese food items like Manchurians, fried rice, sweet and sour vegetable and vegetable spring rolls are also available here at the cost of around Rs. 80 ($1.60) per plate. The menu is also full of many desert items like ice creams, milk shakes, faludas, mock tails, ice cream mix, and Indian deserts like Gulab Jamuns, kheer, fruit salad, and the most famous Rajasthani Rabdi. However, this desertitems are quiet expensive in the range of around Rs.120 ($2.40) per plate. The most popular Rajasthani dish of Dalbati/Churma is also served here. This dish is really lovely and is liked by most of the tourists. Many varieties of hot and cold beverages are also available here at this restaurant like tea, coffee, bourn vita, chocolate milk, soft carbonated drinks and the Punjabi Lassi.

The restaurant remains open from 7 am to 11 pm on all seven days of the week. The location of this restaurant is such that almost all the tourists are tempted to visit it at least once during their stay at Mount Abu. However, one specific word of caution to all the tourists is to always drink bottled mineral water during their entire stay at mount Abu. The drinking water at Mount Abu is really hard to digest and may result in to severe indigestion, acid burns, vomiting, and high fever. The tourists must also try to watch the food they take as some restaurants may be serving spoiled and old food items. Make sure always to consume hot items as they may not be containing any harmful bacteria. Our own experience of having meals at this restaurant was not very pleasant as I suffered severe indigestion, vomiting, and the acid burns after taking meals here. So, I would advise all my friends and readers to be extremely careful while visiting this restaurant.

In spite of this, I would suggest all the tourists to visit this restaurant at least once in view of the wide variety of food items that are served here. However, make sure to order few selected items that are suitable to you and your digestive system.
