Hungry-Man Roasted Turkey Meal Satisfies Big Appetites

Joshua McMorrow-Hernandez
Hungry-Man frozen dinners have been satisfying big appetites for years. Boasting at least 1 pound of food in each meal, Hungry-Man brings a variety of classic meals to your table for less than $5 and within 10 easy minutes if you're cooking in a microwave. Hungry-Man Roasted Turkey is an institutional standby in the Hungry-Man line of frozen dinners. So, let's take a look at the flavor, preparation, and nutritional details of the Hungry-Man Roasted Turkey.

Preparation

Microwave

Making Hungry-Man Roasted Turkey in a microwave oven is easy. Simply cut away the plastic cover from the cranberry dessert and cut a slit in the plastic covering the corn and mashed potatoes. Place the Hungry-Man Roasted Turkey tray into your microwave and cook the meal on HIGH for 8 minutes. After letting the meal stand for about a minute, remove the meal from the microwave and enjoy!

Conventional Oven

If preparing your Hungry-Man Roasted Turkey dinner in a conventional oven, first preheat the conventional oven to 350 degrees. While your oven is achieving the right temperature, cut away the plastic film from the cranberries and cut slits in the film over the corn and mashed potatoes. After your oven is preheated, place your Hungry-Man Roasted Turkey meal onto a baking sheet and onto the middle rack of the oven, where it should cook for 35 to 40 minutes. After your meal has cooked for the appropriate time, remove the meal from the oven and let it stand in the oven for about 1 to 2 minutes.

Flavor

The Hungry-Man Roasted Turkey meal is satisfying. While it doesn't taste like a homemade Thanksgiving turkey dinner, it does offer decent flavor and certainly is among the heartiest and most filling of the frozen dinners I have tried.

The turkey does taste a bit moist and processed, but has much better flavor overall than some other frozen turkey dinners I have tried.

The stuffing has a light herb flavor and complements the turkey well. The potatoes do taste a bit processed, but the gravy makes the potatoes quite enjoyable.

A side dish of corn which comes with the Hungry-Man Roasted Turkey meal possesses a lightly buttery flavor.

The cranberry compote is sweet enough to enjoy as a dessert, but I like eating it along with the turkey to enjoy a more dynamic flavor.

Nutrition

Let's get this out of the way: the sodium count is a whopping 1600 milligrams - 67% of the average person's daily recommended intake. The good news is that other "difficult" numbers fall within 1/3 of your daily recommended intake or less. Jill,

As the containers should not be melting when cooked using the above instructions, you many want to ensure your oven thermometer is calibrated correctly -- perhaps the oven is overheating the food by accident.

And might I also add, the directions do not say to take them out of that container they come in either but I have had to do them that way. The meals are good but bad oven directions..

how come there are oven directions on here but when you cook them in the oven, the container they come in melts as the banquet meals do too?

OK - So this meal has saved my life for Thanksgiving so many times! I am too busy doing things for myself on Thanksgiving, so what I do is -

The week before I buy about 10 Hungry Man Turkey Dinners

The day of the feast, I cook them all in the oven like the box says, spoon them onto plates and I couldn't get more compliments! Every one is tricked into thinking it is the real thing, but it is my little secret.

They all think that I am such a great cook. Thanks Hungry Man!
