The IKEA Milk Frother: $2 Goes a Long Way
I love hot drinks. Raised by a Scottish mom, I've been drinking hot tea with milk and sugar for as long as I can remember. And not just in the morning. The Brits drink their tea all day long, with every meal, in any weather. But when espresso made it big in the states and I tried my first cappuccino, I found a new love. Though tea has always been there to comfort and refresh me, nothing beats the creamy, frothy milk atop a cappuccino. But cappuccinos were a mystery to me. For more than a decade, I was clueless of their construction. I'd heard of espresso machines for home use, but that seemed like entirely too much work. And I refused to pay the outrageous prices, which were more than 10 times the cost of a cup of tea. So for years, I went without. I forgot about the cappuccino and returned to tea.
Then McDonald's came out with their $3 cappuccino and I found myself justifying the slightly cheaper price. At first, it was an occasional drink. But as my addiction grew, I found myself shelling out $3 2 to 3 times a week. I grew disgusted with my spending. It had to end.
That's when I started looking into milk frothers and found the IKEA frother. At $2, it was about $18 cheaper than the rest of them, which made me a little wary. But IKEA has made a fortune providing functional, funky products at amazingly low prices. Plus, at $2, it seemed worth the risk. It remains one of the best purchases I ever made.
It froths hot milk, cold milk and half and half. The IKEA milk frother froths chocolate milk and hot chocolate. For $2, I am able to recreate the cappuccino, using my favorite coffee (Recipe HERE) and my IKEA frother. Every day now, I get to drink a delicious, creamy hot drink for about 1/15 of what it would cost me at McDonald's.
The IKEA milk frother, which is powered by two AA batteries, is worth all 200 pennies. Do yourself a favor and get one. If you don't live near IKEA, find one on eBay for about $4.

Post a CommentI have a frother that is some off brand and it never really frothed satisfactorily, so I'm glad to know about this one!
Wow, what a cool gadget! Thanks for bringing this to our attention. There's nothing like a cheap, hot, homemade cup of frothy joe!
You got to love IKEA, they have the best innovative stuff at reasonable prices. Cheers.
This was an entertaining review. I related (and laughed) from beginning to end. I was raised on tea with two sugars and milk too.
