Review of InCase's Slider Cases for the IPhone 3G and IPhone 3GS

John Neeb
There are a wide array of cases available for Apple's iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS. One of the options you might consider using to protect your iPhone is InCase's Slider model.

The Slider was one of the most popular cases for the original iPhone and InCase has updated it and made the Slider available for the current iPhone 3G models. The case itself is constructed from hard plastic and has rubber guardrails on the inside for shock absorption. The rubber on the inside of the Slider case also will provide scratch protection for your iPhone.

The Slider does not come in the same vibrant colors as other cases, such as Speck's CandyShell cases. On one hand, this might deter younger consumers who would be interested in having a bright pink, purple, or blue case for their iPhone 3G. On the other hand, InCase's Slider is ideal for a professional, business-minded market. Additionally, there are a variety of color options for the Slider, but they are typically more subdued than, and not quite as loud as, those offered by Speck.

The exterior has a nice, sleek design and is soft to the touch, in spite of the hard plastic construction. The Slider, as the name implies, slides nicely in and out of pant pockets, making it easily accessible for when a phone call comes through or an application needs to be performed. The downside to the ease it slides is that the case can easily slip out of the pockets of khaki pants when one is sitting down. This problem is not as apparent when jeans are worn, though.

InCase's Slider has one of the slimmer profiles with regard to iPhone 3G cases. This gives it a very hip, trendy feel. The modern professional would feel comfortable cradling an iPhone in this case and pulling it out during a business meeting.

The functional design of the case is rather simplistic. There are two interlocking parts which cover back, sides, and area around the touchscreen. It does not require great effort to place an iPhone 3G in the case, which is nice. The Slider does leave more of the front exposed than other cases on the market, but this is not to its detriment.

The price of InCase's Slider is $35, which puts it in the middle range of iPhone cases, albeit more towards the upper end of that particular range. The price is almost identical to Speck's CandyShell case, but the target markets seem to be different. Given that InCase's is more geared towards a modern professional, a demographic with theoretically greater disposable income, the price is about right for the product.

As a note, there are bright colors ("Fluro," which will consist of fluorescent: pink, yellow, green, and blue) and three exciting color combinations ("Icon," which will consist of: green/orange, yellow/grey, and blue/brown) coming soon, which are more vibrant and may appeal more towards the younger generation. At the time of this review, however, they are not yet available.
