Review of India Garden in West Palm Beach, Florida

Dana Barnett
India Garden, located at 7504 South Dixie Highway in West Palm Beach, Florida is an extraordinary restaurant that transports the diner into the culture and cuisine of India with authentic food and ambiance.

I have been eating at this restaurant since 1994, but India Garden has been in business for over 15 years. When I first visited India Garden, it was during one of my first dates with my husband. He had been to the restaurant on previous occasions and already had an affinity for Indian food. I, on the other hand, had never experienced Indian cuisine. However, I was pleasantly surprised and India Garden remains to this day one of our favorite restaurants in the area.

India Garden is by no means a fancy restaurant. In fact, it is quite casual. Located on a busy street, the building is not memorable on the outside, and if not for the large sign, you could actually pass it by. Inside the restaurant, the décor is also very simple. There are about ten booths and several tables for patrons to sit at, with a few decorative items here and there. There is always Indian music playing in the background to add to the restaurant's authenticity.

The service at India Garden is quite good. The servers are accommodating and attentive, providing water whenever your glass is half full. As soon as you sit down at your table, papadams--Indian crackers--are quickly brought to the table, as well as three different chutneys to dip them in. If you run out of the crispy papadams, the servers will be happy to bring more at no charge.

When I am at India Garden, I am always amazed at how many vegetarian items are on the menu. I have sampled several including the Chana Masala-- a delicious combination of chick peas in a tomato sauce, the Saag Paneer--a spinach dish with homemade cheese cubes, and the Bombay Aloo--a dish consisting of potatoes and spices in a delectable sauce. I have never been disappointed, and contrary to popular belief, you can order all of the dishes mild, medium, or spicy.

If you are not a vegetarian, don't worry, there are plenty of non-vegetarian dishes too. My husband raves about the Chicken Tika Masala, saying that it is the best he has ever tasted. Along with your entrée, you must sample the Naan bread. Lightly buttered or with garlic, Naan is delicious by itself or for dipping in your food.

The next time you are in the mood for something different, give India Garden a try. The extensive menu at the restaurant offers all types of delicious dishes. Open your mind to something new and you might be surprised to find that you really enjoy Indian food.

If you liked this restaurant, you ought to try the one in Deerfield Beach off the A-1-A. Its a nice small restaurant where the buffet is very good. One item that is good is goat curry which is very delicious.
