Review of the Insect Lore Butterfly Garden Kit

For Christmas, my husband asked for a Butterfly House to place in our garden. Upon researching various sites online, I not only found a beautiful Butterfly House, but also found a Butterfly Garden Kit. I have to tell you, this was a wonderful gift not only for my husband but for our whole family as well!

The Butterfly Garden kit included a Butterfly Pavilion Habitat and a coupon to order live caterpillars. We received the caterpillars in the mail not long after we sent in the coupon. They arrived in a plastic container with five caterpillars, having a guarantee that we would end up with at least three Painted Lady Butterflies. Easy instructions were included along with interesting butterfly facts. Special food was also included.

The first week we were able to witness the growth of the caterpillars as they prepared to become chrysalids. The second week they made their way to the lid of the plastic container and made their cocoons . Once they did this, we then took the lid off of the plastic container and placed it carefully into the Pavilion Habitat that was included with the kit. By the third week, the caterpillars hatched and we had four beautiful Painted Lady Butterflies!

This was an awesome experience for all of us, especially for my nine year old daughter. But I have to say I do believe my husband and I enjoyed it as much as she did! We kept the butterflies for a few days feeding them sugar water to observe them. Then, we took them out on our deck and released our "pet" butterflies. It was indeed an awesome experience.

I would recommend this product to everyone of all ages. This would also be a wonderful experience for teachers to share with their students. They offer special kits that have enough butterflies for each child in the classroom to have their own!

If you are looking for a unique gift idea for a child or a nature lover in your family, this would definitely be a hit! We plan on ordering more caterpillars, and may even venture and purchase a lady bug kit or even their frog kit. This is great family activity that everyone is sure to enjoy!
